The Philadelphia Eagles will be without Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley and potentially DeVonta Smith for the clash with the Panthers, as they look to rebound from a third successive defeat.
The Philadelphia Eagles will welcome the Carolina Panthers to Lincoln Financial Field in week six of the 2026 NFL Season this weekend as they attempt to rebound from a last-ditch defeat to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London last weekend.
The Eagles looked to have secured the win after Jake Elliott connected on a 48-yard field with eight seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, but a 53-yard kick return from Ameer Abdullah put the Jaguars in field goal range, allowing Cam Little to connect on a 57-yard field goal to win the game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for Liam Coen’s team.
The defeat meant that the Eagles fell to a third successive defeat following losses to the Chicago Bears, who were without star quarterback Caleb Williams in gameweek 3, and the Los Angeles Rams, who overcame a 20-10 deficit to win 20-24 thanks to two Kyren Williams rushing touchdowns. The lack of second-half offense has become an increasing concern for Eagles Head Coach Nick Sirianni, who will now be without Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley and potentially, DeVonta Smith, for the clash with the Panthers.
“We have to look at ourselves as coaches first. How do we get ourselves and put our guys in positions to succeed, and then it's with execution,” Sirianni said in Sunday’s post-match press conference. “It's never just one thing, but we got to figure out our second half offense because we are putting together some nice first-half offense and have a lot of opportunities to put the game away, and we haven't been able to do that.
“We’ve got to figure that out in the long -- we got to get better at that because that's going to bite us in the butt, continue to bite us in the butt if we don't,” Sirianni concluded.
The 2026 season has been one long battle for the Eagles. Lane Johnson, their longtime right tackle, retired before the game against the Jaguars, their starting center Cam Jurgens was traded to the Baltimore Ravens, their starting left guard Landon Dickerson is on injured reserve, Zack Baun, their star linebacker, missed the game against the Rams with injury and now their three top skill players in Barkley, Smith and Hurts, who was ruled out of the clash with the Panthers due to a blood clot in his calf. However, despite the challenges his team is facing, Sirianni is pleased with his team’s togetherness.
“I think you have a team that's together, and I think you have an extremely mentally tough, physically tough football team that fought and played their butts off. You know, those are the positives, right? I thought the guys fought like crazy and picked themselves up after last week's tough loss. That's why you'd like for the game to go the other way, but you know, it didn't,” Sirianni said.
The battle to overcome adversity doesn’t get any easier for the Eagles this weekend. Without Hurts, the Eagles are expected to start Tanner McKee at quarterback. McKee, who was a sixth-round pick for the Eagles in 2023, started one game in 2025, recording a statline of 241 yards passing, one touchdown pass and an interception in a 24-17 defeat to the Washington Commanders. Expect to see McKee to lean heavily on tight ends Dallas Goedert and Zach Ertz in the passing game as the Eagles look to overcome Dave Canales’ Carolina Panthers, who defeated the Detroit Lions 32-26 in week four and spent last week on a bye, which has allowed Jalen Coker, one of the team’s star receivers, to return to full health ahead of the clash in Philadelphia.
For UK-based NFL fans, the NFL London Games will continue this weekend with the Houston Texans heading to Wembley Stadium to battle the Jacksonville Jaguars. Tickets are available here.
