For those of you who are heading to Royal Ascot 2023, you will notice there is a subtle change to the programmes on offer compared to years gone by. The late Queen’s official royal emblem has been replaced by a new cypher, to reflect King Charles and Queen Camilla.

The official Instagram page for Royal Ascot recently revealed more details about the cypher and said: “We are delighted to unveil the race card cover for the opening day of Royal Ascot 2023, the first displaying the joint cypher of Their Majesties The King & Queen.”

Royal Ascot 2023 will be King Charles’s debut meeting as monarch and he is set to follow in his late mother’s footsteps by attending every day of it. The Telegraph wrote that, “Racing will be desperate for the King to have a winner, so that he can show the sort of emotion that we witnessed from his mother in 2013.”

Even though King Charles may not be as passionate about horse racing as his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, he has plenty of horses at Ascot 2023 to keep him interested. On Tuesday 20 June, ‘Saga’ is running in the Wolferton Stakes at 5.35pm, on Wednesday 21 June, ‘Reach For the Moon’ is taking part in the Royal Hunt Cup at 5pm and Circle of Fire is in the Queen’s Vase at 5.35pm. According to Paddy Power, Saga is at 5/1, Reach For the Moon is at 10/1, and Circle of Fire is at 6/1.

I am in no doubt that if one of King Charles’s horses does win, he is sure to be nearly as excited as his late mother was at Royal Ascot in 2013. Queen Elizabeth II’s horse Estimate took the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot in 2013 and she beamed with delight alongside her racing manager, John Warren.
