Serena Williams teases tennis comeback as she says 'I'm not retired'

You can’t keep a good woman down. And certainly not when that good woman is arguably the best female tennis player of all time.

And so, despite having eulogies of her greatness dominating the US Open in September, Serena Williams has backtracked slightly on her earlier words of wishing to ‘evolve away from tennis’.

Instead, the 23 Grand Slam winner is hinting at a return to the tennis court. She has said: "I’m not retired," although in the same interview at a conference in San Francisco she joked that fans could see her on court again as she has one at her house.

Serena has admitted that the transition away from professional sports has been difficult.

"I did wake up the other day and went on the court and I was like, ‘Oh, for the first time in my life, I’m not playing for a competition and it felt really weird'," she told Good Morning America in September 2022.

The three-time Olympic gold medal winner wishes to add to her family with husband Alexis Ohanian, a Reddit founder.

They already have a daughter, Olympia, who they welcomed in 2017. Serena is also a successful businesswoman and has her own company, Serena Ventures, through which she manages her investments in more than 60 start-ups.

No matter whether Serena returns to the professional circuit, it's obvious she'll continue to court attention.
