What is the weather forecast for Goodwood Races and will it deter Liz Hurley and other celebs from attending?

The Qatar Goodwood Festival kicks off on Tuesday August 1 and with any event in the UK summer everyone will be wondering what to expect with the great British weather. 

Goodwood Racecourse is a horse-racing track north of Chichester, West Sussex, in England run by the Duke of Richmond who owns the Goodwood Estate. The Goodwood Festival of Speed which saw Bridget Jones star Renee Zellweger with her beau Ant Anstead attend. 

As one of the highlights of the British flat racing season the world famous five day festival will see racegoers and celebrities including Liz Hurley, Harry Redknap and Darcey Bussell and Laura Woods who have all previously attended the event, descend upon Sussex hoping to win big. Even the Royals have attended over the years the late Queen Elizabeth ll used to be a regular visitor to Goodwood races, along with King Edward VII and his wife, Queen Alexandra.

Tickets are still available to buy from the website but some packages are limited or have low availability especially on Ladies day which will be on Thursday August 3. 

The Met Office forecast for the next few days appears to be a wet one. Tuesday will see scattered showers and bright spells likely on Tuesday. Showers becoming more isolated in the afternoon and evening. Maximum temperature 22 °C.

Turning wet and windy Wednesday, with some persistent rain and fresh winds. Brighter into Thursday and Friday with occasional showers and slowly easing winds. Temperatures staying rather cool.

Will the Goodwood Horse racing be cancelled if it rains? 

Luckily rain only becomes an issue when it leads to waterlogging on parts of the course, or floods it entirely. 

What to wear to Goodwood Racecourse if it rains? 

The best advice for an outside event in the UK is to wear appropriate clothing. In the event of rainy day weather racegoers are advised to wear comfortable footwear and to bring a raincoat or umbrella. 

There are areas that are well covered and the bars are fully stocked so no matter what the weather it will be an enjoyable day out.
