As always, the Grand National takes place at Aintree racecourse and this year’s race is scheduled to get underway at 5.15pm on Saturday 9th April.

Who won last year’s race?

The Henry de Bromhead-trained Minella Times was an 11/1 winner in last year’s Grand National - but it was the jockey on board that took the majority of the headlines.

Rachel Blackmore went into the meeting on the back of a remarkable Cheltenham Festival and wrote her name into the record books as the first ever female winner of the race.

Speaking after the race, Blackmore told ITV Sport: “I don’t feel male or female right now. I don’t even feel human.

“I cannot believe it.

“He was a sensational spin. It is unbelievable.”

The win also capped a remarkable spell for trainer de Bromhead after his horses claimed the Champion Hurdle, Champion Chase and Gold Cup at Cheltenham a month earlier.

Aidan Coleman pleased the each-way backers as he rode 100/1 rated Balko Des Flos into second place and Mark Walsh’s Any Second Now finished in third.

The much-fancied Cloth Cap entered the race as 11/2 favourite but was pulled up.

Who are the favourites for this year’s race?

Any Second Now is rated at 12/1 joint-favourite with William Hill to improve on last year’s third-placed finish and pass the post first in this year’s race.

Escaria Ten is also rated at 12/1 with Enjoy Dallen rated as second favourite at 14/1.
