Hundreds of flights cancelled due to major airline’s two-day strike, are flights from the UK affected?

Pilots at a major airline are on strike due to pension disputes.

Pilots at Lufthansa are on strike on Monday April 13 and Tuesday April 14 due to a strike by union Vereinigung Cockpit. Lufthansa has released a statement on its website which reads: “The union Vereinigung Cockpit has announced a strike at short notice for Monday and Tuesday, 13th and 14th April 2026.

Lufthansa is working intensively to keep the impact on our passengers as low as possible. We are trying to have as many flights as possible operated by other airlines within the Lufthansa Group and by partner airlines.

“If you are affected by flight cancellations or rebookings, we will proactively inform you by email latest by Sunday morning, 12th April 2026, about the current situation.

Reddit users have been reacting to news about the strikes and one wrote: “It's getting out of hand....

“For the last 4 years there have been strikes from all sites affecting either Lufthansa or Munich/Frankfurt Airports...

“I doubt Lufthansa will give in into their demands especially now with the Iran War and rising costs for airlines....

“If they want to strike strike strike strike then they need to handle it differently, attack the Lufthansa group but stop affecting passengers. There needs to be a different way to strike, if I look at Japan then last time the Public Buses struck in Kyoto the Buses would still operate but not charge a single dollar. Maybe something like this needs to happen.”

Another Reddit user wrote: “This is really getting out of hand - sitting at the SEN hotline wait queue and looking to rebook a flight from 14th… 🤬 I have the highest respect for Lufthansa pilots but I think there is no reason for them to go again on strike and their compensation package is really good already.”

Lufthansa passengers have taken to Instagram to express their dissatisfaction over the strikes and one person wrote: “Because of the flight strike, you kept many of your customers sleepless. We are not able to contact Lufthansa, by phone or by chat, not able to rebook our flights online, do not get any assigned flights.

“What are we supposed to do while we wait for you to do your job? The only thing I am getting from you is an email stating that you are not able to rebook my flight and encourage me to rebook my own? You realize that you are not picking up the phone, your live bot is not working and your online booking system just keeps giving errors for rebooking! You need to rearrange our flights asap!”
