Lufthansa forced to cancel flights across Europe as pilots and staff take strike action - are Friday's flight affected?

Flight passengers were being subjected to cancellations and delays on Thursday (February 12) after a major airline was forced to cut routes due to strike action.

Lufthansa Group flights, inlcuding Lufthansa and CityLine routes, were cancelled after pilots and cabin crew staged a one-day strike over a dispute over the pension system for pilots and other negotiations.

Hundreds of flights from Frankfurt Airport were cancelled, with thousands of passengers affected. Outbound flight heading to Frankfurt and Munich were also impacted by the strike action, which was held by Vereinigung Cockpit and UFO unions.

Lufthansa has said that it was confident that Friday’s flights are expected to return to a largely normal schedule. The company also criticised the staff walkouts as “disproportionate”, saying that they were held with “extremely short notice”.

A spokesperson for the airline added: “Sustainable solutions can only be found through dialogue; strikes must always remain a last resort. We therefore call on the unions to resume talks with us. We are ready to do so at any time.”

Lufthansa also said that affected customers would be contacted ahead of their flight if the strike impacted their travel.
