In the classic 1953 festive hit, Santa Baby, Eartha Kitt sung about the lavish gifts she wanted for Christmas – and now Royal Mail has worked out how much it would cost to buy someone these in 2024.

The singer’s wish list - which includes extravagant items such as a duplex, a yacht, and decorations from jewellers Tiffany’s – would come to a staggering £570,000 - and that’s not even including the deeds to a platinum mine.

First on Kitt’s letter to Santa was a Sable fur coat and a ’54 convertible. Today’s shoppers could expect to pay £200 for a luxurious faux fur coat and at least £27,000 for a new convertible car. Meanwhile, average prices for mid-range yachts are around £275,000, not including annual maintenance.

The decorations from Tiffany’s, based on a six-foot Christmas tree requiring 100 hundred ornaments, would bringing the festive décor bill to £9,500.

Not to mention the duplex, which would set buyers back £254,000 for an apartment based on the average UK property values.

And as the famous lyrics say, “forgot to mention one little thing, a ring”. This final request would set Santa back a further £1,948, based on the average price of a diamond engagement ring in the UK.

Royal Mail worked out the price tag attached to the iconic hit’s lyrics as posties around the UK play their own part in making the nation’s Christmas wish lists come true. Royal Mail delivers around twice as many parcels during December compared with other months, as shoppers increasingly turn online to purchase gifts.

People are increasingly buying gifts using online shopping which means December is by far our busiest time of the year for Royal Mail, and our posties work even harder than usual to deliver ensure your parcels and cards arrive in time for the big day.”
