Setting off from Gosport on Friday morning, Lance Peterson, a dedicated, 21 year old volunteer for the Final Straw Foundation, will embark on an extraordinary test of endurance to raise awareness for marine conservation. Dubbed the Isle of Wight Aquatic Ultra, this immense challenge will see him swim 10 km across the cold waters of the Solent before running 115 km around the Isle of Wight, tackling over 2,500 meters of elevation gain in a true battle of resilience.

“Swimming across the Solent in freezing UK waters will pre-exhaust my body before I begin the 110 km run around the Isle of Wight, making every step a battle against fatigue. It’s a personal pilgrimage” says Lance. “This challenge carries a bigger purpose. I’m supporting The Final Straw Foundation in their mission to reduce ocean plastic waste and protect the waters of the South Coast. Having spent so much time in and around the sea, I’ve seen firsthand the damage pollution is doing to our coastlines. If this challenge can raise awareness and inspire even small changes, then every stroke and step will be worth it.”

The Final Straw Foundation is dedicated to tackling marine and coastal pollution by demonstrating and inspiring positive environmental behaviors and practical action. Lance’s challenge will shine further light on the urgent need to protect our fragile ecosystems and inspire individuals, businesses, and communities to take action. Bianca Carr, CEO of the Final Straw Foundation, expressed her admiration for Lance’s commitment: “We are in absolute awe of Lance’s dedication, not only to this grueling challenge but also to the cause of ocean conservation. His months of training and unwavering determination are truly inspiring. We can’t wait to cheer him on around his course. We are incredibly grateful for his efforts in raising awareness and vital funds for our work. Good luck, Lance—you’ve got this!”
