Jodie Turner-Smith - Anne Boleyn

Jodie Turner-Smith takes on the title role of Anne Boleyn.

The actress’ breakout role was in TNT’s series The Last Ship, but Turner-Smith received critical acclaim for her performance in Queen & Slim alongside Daniel Kaluuya.

The 34-year-old hails from Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, but later moved to America with her mother after her parents divorced.

Initially, Turner-Smith wanted to become a writer, but was urged by musician Pharrell Williams to pursue a career in modelling which led to a move to LA.

Turner-Smith appeared in several campaigns and music videos including Zayn Malik’s Pillowtalk and The Dream featuring Kanye West’s Walkin' On The Moon.

The actress follows in the footsteps of The Crown’s Claire Foy, who won and BAFTA for her performance as Anne Boleyn, and Natalie Portman in the movie The Other Boleyn Girl.

This will be the first time a black actress has taken on the role of Anne Boleyn in a TV version of this tragic tale.

Outside of her career, Turner-Smith is married to The Affair and Dawson’s Creek actor Joshua Jackson after they started dating in 2018. They have one daughter together, who was born in April 2020.

Paapa Essiedu - George Boleyn

Ghanaian-British actor Paapa Essiedu plays the brother of Anne, George Boleyn.

Essiedu shot to fame after his performance as Hamlet in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s 2016 production.

The actor also starred in the BBC/HBO smash hit TV drama I May Destroy You as Kwame.

He has also featured in Gangs of London, Unsaid Stories and Black Earth Rising.

Mark Stanley - Henry VIII

White House Farm actor Mark Stanley will be playing the role of Anne Boleyn’s husband Henry VIII.

The English actor is best known for his performance as Grenn in the HBO show Game of Thrones, and opposite Keeley Hawes in Honour.

Stanley has also featured in Elizabeth is Missing, period drama Sanditon, and the mini-series Little Women.

Anna Brewster - Jane Boleyn

Anna Brewster will star as the role of Jane Boleyn.

Brewster is best known for her role of Madame de Montespan in the period drama Versailles.

The actress has also played a number of smaller roles in crime drama Luther, Silent Witness and The Tudors.

Jamael Westman - Edward Seymour

Actor Jamael Westman will be playing the role of Edward Seymour.

The British actor is best known for his performance as the titular role of Alexander Hamilton in the West End production of Hamilton.

He was nominated for an Olivier Award for his performance in Line-Manuel Miranda’s musical.

He also appeared in comedy-drama film Animals in 2019.

Aoife Hinds - Princess Mary

The actress has also appeared in Derry Girls, The Commuter, Nightflyers, and The Feed.

When is Anne Boleyn on TV?

Anne Boleyn will air on Channel 5 at 9pm on Tuesday 1 June.

The remaining two episodes will air on Wednesday and Thursday.
