Four decades after Indiana Jones swung into action on the Silver screen, he is now officially back - in the UK.

The fifth instalment of the sequel was subject to rumours for over a decade, but confirmation that he would return was finally announced in 2020. On 4 June, filming began for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which is preceded by Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008).

So, where in the UK is Indiana Jones being filmed - and when will it premiere? This is what we know so far.

Where was Indiana Jones 5 filmed in England?

The main location of interest has been the village of Grosmont, in the Yorkshire Moors, and Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland.

The castle was seen ablaze in during shooting, as filming for the upcoming movie took place from 4 – 11 June 2021.

Harrison Ford’s stunt double was spotted in full costume, surrounded by runners and other production staff in the village of Grosmont, much to the delight of residents.

Props were also seen in locations such as the North Yorkshire Moors Railway which was also used recently to film Tom Cruise’s blockbuster, Mission: Impossible 7.

Actors were also been spotted “dressed in the colours of 1940s German railways, as well as Nazi uniforms” according to York Press.

At one point, leading actor Ford was spotted taking a break from filming, as he relaxed at Newcastle’s Quayside. The Hollywood star then travelled a bit further afield when as he was spotted at North Shields' pub The Ship's Cat.

Other filming locations include Pinewood Studios, a UK film and TV studio situated in Iver Heath as well as various places in Scotland, such as the Leaderfoot Viaduct, Glencoe and Biggar, in South Lanarkshire.

Who will be in the Indiana Jones 5 cast?

Ford, 78, will return as Jones, alongside Fleabag creator and lead actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Also included in the lineup is Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal, The Hunt), Thomas Kretschmann (The Pianist), Boyd Holbrook (Narcos, The Predator) and Shaynette Renee Wilson (Black Panther).

When is Indiana Jones 5 released?

The Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is set to have its world premier at the 76th Cannes Film Festival on 18 May 2023. It will then be released in cinemas in the UK on 28 June. It had originally been slated to be released in July 2019, however was delayed.
