Those Who Wish Me Dead: release date, trailer and who stars in cast with Angelina Jolie’s in new action movie

The first trailer for Those Who Wish Me Dead has been revealed, with the film seeing Angelina Jolie make a return to action movies.

Based on Michael Koryta’s 2014 novel, the new film will see Jolie star as an expert firefighter in the Montana wilderness, as she attempts to help a child running away from trouble.

What is Those Who Wish Me Dead about?

The story follows smoke jumper Hannah (Angelina Jolie) who is one of the expert firefighters trained to parachute into a wildfire.

Stationed at an isolated fire tower in the Montana wilderness, Hannah is still reeling from a past failed mission.

She encounters 12-year-old Connor (Finn Little) running out of the wilderness, covered in blood, and traumatised after a car crash.

Hannah learns that the crash was caused by two assassins (Nicholas Hoult and Aidan Gillen), and together, Hannah and Connor have to outrun both their hunters whilst a wildfire rages around them.

In the novel, the killers are known as the Blackwell Brothers, and are regarded as two of the most heinous criminals the country has ever known.

The book was praised for its relentless pace, and page turning attributes.

The film is directed by Taylor Sheridan, who is known for his films Hell or High Water and Sicario. The director was also the co-writer of the TV show Yellowstone. Sheridan earned an Oscar nomination for his script for Hell or High Water.

Who is in the cast?

The movie's lead is Angelina Jolie, who is making a return to the action genre. The 45-year-old has starred in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and Salt.

Jolie told Entertainment Weekly that she was excited to work with director Taylor Sheridan, saying: “He has a unique voice when it comes to characters within America, which had not been a prior focus of my work. I wanted to be in this world with him."

The Oscar winning actress was most recently seen in The One and Only Ivan, as the voice of Stella, and Rose Littleton in the fantasy movie Come Away.

Nicholas Hoult stars as one of the assassins. Hoult, who shot to fame in About a Boy, is best known for his role in Mad Max: Fury Road, The Favourite and TV series The Great.

Aiden Gillen plays the second assassin. Gillen is best known for playing Little Finger on Game of Thrones.

The film also stars Tyler Perry, Jake Weber, Medina Senghore and Jon Bernthal.

When will Those Who Wish Me Dead be released?

Those Who Wish Me Dead will be released in the UK on 21 May 2021.

In the US the film will debut in both theatres and on HBO Max.

HBO Max is currently unavailable in the UK, but cinemas are set to reopen in England and Scotland from 17 May.

It is unconfirmed whether Those Who Wish Me Dead will be released in cinemas yet.
