Too Close starring Emily Watson is the latest thriller to chill ITV audiences.

The series focuses on dedicated forensic psychiatrist, Emma Robertson, who is assigned to work with Connie Mortensen, a wife and mother accused of a despicable crime.

Set over three episodes the show focuses on the bond and conflict between the duo.

ITV itself describes the drama as story about “a powerful – but dangerous – closeness between two women”.

Who stars in the drama?

Emily Watson stars as conflicted psychiatrists Emma Robertson. In 2019 Watson starred alongside Paul Ritter in Sky/HBO historical drama Chernobyl.

You may also recognise her from BBC crime thriller Apple Tree Yard in which she starred as Yvonne Carmichael.

She stars opposite Denise Gough who plays criminal suspect Connie Mortensen.

Gough is an Olivier Award winner who featured in ‘71 and Robin Hood. She is also known for her voiceover work in fantasy video game The Witcher.

She is also set to star in an upcoming Game of Thrones prequel.

Thalissa Teixeira who recently appeared in BBC Two drama Trigonometry plays Ness Jones.

James Sives, Risteárd Cooper, Chizzy Akudolu, Karl Johnson, Eileen Davies, Nina Wadia and Paul Chahidi also feature.

Sives recently appeared in crime drama Guilt, while Cooper featured in Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? drama quiz as David Liddiment.

Akudolu is best known for her recurring role as Mo Effanga in Holby City. You may recognise Davies from hospital soap opera Doctors where she starred as Elsie Tucker.

Is it based on a true story?

Too Close is based on a novel of the same name written by actress Clara Salaman under the pseudonym Natalie Daniels.

Released in 2018 the Bill actress’ debut novel received critical acclaim with fellow writer Emma Curtis labelling it “seriously brilliant - quality writing, three-dimensional characters and a sharp wit."

Salaman has also penned the screenplay for the ITV adaptation.

The story featured in the novel is not based on a true story.

Where is Too Close filmed?

Too Close was filmed on location in London and Kent.

The bulk of the scenes featuring the two leading actresses were filmed at the now closed Holloway Prison in London.

Watson described the setting as a really grim place. Now a dead building which has housed so many sad lives.

When can I watch Too Close and how many episodes are there?

Too Close consists of three episodes which are airing on consecutive night from April 12 to April 14.

Each episode will be shown at 9pm on ITV or STV.
