Atypical has returned to Netflix for its fourth and final season.

The series follows Sam Gardner, an 18-year-old on the autism spectrum, as he looks to build new friendships and prepare himself to leave home after high school.

Season four will be picking up from the season three finale, continuing to follow the show’s emotional storylines, as Gardener adjusts to sharing an apartment with his friend Zahid.

Atypical season four premiered on Netflix on Friday 9 July 2021.

The final season will consist of 10 half-hour episodes, which will be available to binge watch at once.

Atypical was renewed for a fourth and final season in February 2020, but production was delayed by the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

There was concern that Atypical would be among a host of Netflix shows that got cancelled in the wake of the pandemic, but fortunately this proved not to be the case.

Who’s in the cast of Atypical season four?

Atypical season four will see the return of the Gardener family. Keir Gilchrist returns as the show’s lead Sam Gardener. Oscar nominee Jennifer Jason Leigh also returns in the new season as his protective mother, Elsa.

Prison Break’s Michael Rapaport will continue his role as Sam’s father Doug, and Brigette Lundy-Paine will return as Casey. Lundy-Paine recently featured in the film Bill & Ted Face The Music.

Nik Dodani and Jenna Boyd also reprise their roles as Zahid and Paige, and Graham Rogers and Rachel Redleaf will return as Evan and Beth Chaplin.

The Big Bang Theory star Sara Gilbert will be back as Sam’s university mentor, Professor Judd.

What will Atypical season four be about?

Season four will continue to follow the Gardner family, as Sam finally heads off to live with his longtime best friend Zahid. However, it looks like it won’t just be smooth sailing as the pair adjust to living together.

The series will also follow Casey as she attempts to balance her relationship with classmate Izzie, as well as achieving her dream of going to UCLA.

The Gardener parents Elsa and Doug look to have reconciled after their marriage was thrown into disarray when Doug had an affair with a local bartender. The new season will follow the pair work together to keep their kids on track.

The season also has the added pressure of being the final series for Atypical. Will the show have an ending to satisfy the fans?
