What will Rick and Morty season 5 be about?

It has been a year since season four was released, and little is still known about what will happen in the latest season.

However, writer Scott Marder teased that fans will get some "epic canon" in the upcoming episodes: "Fans are gonna like get knocked over by the canon we're about to hit them with... All the stuff we're doing is so awesome."

It is likely the ‘Interdimensional Cable’ format will make a return in the season, and the story of Evil Morty may pop up again too. The season four finale also saw the Mrs Sanchez East Egg.

In a brief moment, Rick pulled up Beth’s memories on a large screen, including one which showed her mother when Beth was a baby.

Speaking at PaleyFest NY, creator Dan Harmon spoke about Space Beth’s storyline in season five, admitting: "You know as much as Rick knows. I don't want to keep secrets with the audience. She's Schrodinger's Beth right now. The fact she may or may not be a clone is actually the important thing."

"It's the profound revelation about Rick's commitment to non-commitment and how abusive that can be as a parent," he said. That is the important thing here. We're adding aunts to the family. We're having fun looking at more options with Space Beth."

Back in May 2019, Harmon also hinted at some potential season five ideas on social media with the following caption: "The amount of season five ideas Rob Schrab can come up with in a day is just awe inspiring from a certain distance at which I should have stayed."
