Beresford made his first return to the presenting panel following his on-air row with former Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan earlier in March.

Although Beresford returned briefly to present the weather last Friday (19 March), co-host Kate Garraway said it was good to see him as she spoke of “tumultuous times”.

Who is Alex Beresford?

Alex Beresford is an ITV journalist, weatherman, and presenter.

Beresford joined ITV in 2004, starting as an autocue operative for Bristol-based ITV West Country, before retraining as a weatherman.

He got his big break on morning TV in March 2012, where he made his debut appearance on ITV’s Breakfast show, Daybreak.

Daybreak became Good Morning Britain, and Beresford began to have an increasing presence on the show.

Beresford has also presented several of his own shows including The World’s Weirdest Weather in 2013 and Britain’s Most Extreme Weather, in 2014, both for Channel 4.

Fans of the show Ninja Warrior may recognise Beresford, after the weatherman attempted the assault course for the UK version of the show. He also had an attempt on skates in 2018 for the tenth season of Dancing on Ice.

One such feud went viral after Piers Morgan mocked the presenter for wearing a papoose during early fatherhood. Susanna Reid also jokingly described him as a “love god”.

The pair left audiences to speculate whether their on-air arguments were ‘banter’ or part of a genuine feud between the two.

Tension between the pair bubbled over in the wake of the Oprah Winfrey interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in early March 2021.

Following Piers Morgan’s claims that Ms Markle was lying, and that he did not believe her when she said she had suicidal thoughts, Beresford challenged the former GMB host live on air.

In an now infamous piece of UK TV, Morgan eventually stormed off set in an apparent rage after Beresford questioned his choice of language over the past two days on air.

Empathising with Meghan's concerns of racism against son Archie, Alex said he "fully understands the hurt that is behind that", recalling a comment that someone once made to him about his own son's skin colour.

Piers Morgan would leave the show that evening, with ITV announcing his departure after being co-host with Susanna Reid since 2015.

Where was Alex Beresford born?

Speaking to the Telegraph in 2018, his parents moved to a council house at Sussex Place in Bristol, eventually moving into a house in Eastville, where he grew up.

His mum is English and his father is from Guyana. Beresford recalled that his father never took sick days and worked hard for the family.
