‘The Animal Thing’ film is the closing highlight of the Texas Animalis Fabula Film Festival
The film is showing on Thanksgiving weekend, on the evening of Saturday 30th November at 8pm at AMC Theatres at the RiverCenter Mall in the vibrant city of San Antonio.
‘The Animal Thing’ is directed by filmmaker Adam Linzey and charts the struggles of his father, the animal theologian Andrew Linzey. Andrew spoke out as a progressive voice in the Anglican Church, was a polarizing force at the University of Oxford and, most significantly, was a tireless advocate for animal rights, on many issues including fox hunting, seal clubbing and animal experimentation.

Hide AdAndrew is also founder of the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics, and co-creator of the Centre’s Annual Oxford Animal Ethics Summer School. He is author and editor of more than 40 books.
Despite the immense price he has paid for confronting the cruelty of animal exploitation, Andrew has also had an enormous and, until now, largely unheralded impact on the modern animal movement. Yet today, Andrew considers himself a failure. ‘The Animal Thing’ is seen as an important film for both highlighting Andrew’s achievements and also exploring his own struggles. In addition to ‘The Animal Thing’ closing the festival, Director Adam Linzey and Producer Clair Linzey will be giving a workshop on the film on the Saturday morning. Executive Producer, Susan Boggio and Associate Producer Sidney Blankenship will also be attending.
The Animalis Fabula Film Festival (AniFab) is a finely curated festival of the best, hand selected filmed stories about or including animals by filmmakers from around the world. Produced by the World Animal Awareness Society & WA2S Films, an award-winning Texas based nonprofit charity, AniFab will project more than 30 “animal stories” on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th November 2024.

Hide AdDirector Adam Linzey says: “I really hope the film can be seen by as many people as possible so that people who are interested in the field of animal rights/ethics/welfare have a story they can relate to. I think my father has largely been characterized by other people throughout his career, especially through the media and it felt that maybe now was a good time to put his ideas across in his own words. Most people who know my father regard his life as a great success. But Dad sees his life rather differently, as a series of failures. I wanted to finally tell his story: to explore his ideas and hopefully prove that he’s not a failure.”
