Lyle and Erik Menendez and a large group of other inmates were amongst the prisoners who heard Kim Kardshian speak about prison reform when she visited the Richard J. Donovan Correctional facility near San Diego this weekend.
I am currently at the start of watching the Netflix series ‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.’ It tells the story of two brothers, Lyle and Erik Menendez who were convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder after fatally shooting their parents, Kitty and Jose Menendez in 1989. They are sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.

“One of their major discussion points ... Greenspace, a reform strategy about beautifying prison yards to help inmates rehabilitate -- spearheaded by Lyle Menendez. Erik's also a huge part of the project.”
Erik Menendez’s wife recently released a statement on X where she criticised the series and said: “Erik’s response to the Netflix series. #NetflixMonsters #Netflix #Ryan Murphy. She also said: “In Erik’s words. “I believed we had moved beyond the lies and ruinous character portrayals of Lyle, creating a caricature of Lyle rooted in horrible and blatant lies rampant in the show. “I can only believe they were done so on purpose. It is with a heavy heart that I say, I believe Ryan Murphy cannot be this naive and inaccurate about the facts of our lives so as to do this without bad intent.”
The statement also said: “How demoralizing is it to know that one man with power can undermine decades of progress in shedding light on childhood trauma," the statement continued. "Violence is never an answer, never a solution, and is always tragic. As such, I hope it is never forgotten that violence against a child creates a hundred horrendous and silent crime scenes darkly shadowed behind glitter and glamor and rarely exposed until tragedy penetrates everyone involved."

Are Lyle and Erik Menendez married?
Lyle Menedez is married to Rebecca and was married to Anna Eriksson from 1996 to 2001. Erik has been married to wife Tammi since 1999. According to People magazine, "While Lyle and Erik are both married, neither has consummated their marriages because conjugal visits are prohibited for inmates serving life sentences in California.”
Will Lyle and Erik Menendez ever be released?
Both brothers are currently serving a life sentence and are not eligible for parole. However Today reported that “Attorneys for the Menendez brothers filed a habeas petition on May 4, 2023, according to court documents obtained by NBC News, based on new evidence uncovered in the “Menendez + Menudo: Boys Betrayed” documentary that was not included in their trials in the 1990s. The petition also included a 1988 letter Erik Menendez wrote to his cousin complaining of ongoing abuse from his father.”
