He was brilliant at math; had mad skills with a 3-D printer; owned and proudly sported funky trousers; was trained in ballet; and was adored by everybody.

“He was fortunate to have the constant love and encouragement of his parents, his sister, his aunts and uncles, and his longtime girlfriend Lauren. All of us at Checkpoint Theatre extend our deepest condolences to them in this difficult time.”
Checkpoint’s tribute on Instagram ended with these words: “Our lives and our work were enriched by his presence. In just 24 months of intensive collaboration, we came to love him deeply. We will do our best to carry on, and to make the sort of theatre Shahid would have wanted to see and would have wanted to take part in.”
Following Checkpoint Tribute’s fans have paid their own condolences and one said:” Had the privilege of watching him in Secondary the Musical. It was apparent that he was truly gifted and talented. We’ll miss him dearly. Rest in peace, Shahid. ♥️” whilst another said: “Young giant indeed. You achieved so much in such a short time, and your star was only beginning to rise. Rest easy, Shahid 🤍”

But in September, it was announced that he had to withdraw following medical advice to undergo chemotherapy, and would be replaced by understudy Matthias Teh.”
On 3 October, Shahid shared the news about his leukaemia and his treatment on Instagram and said: “17 days into my cancer treatment and I think it’s about time I said something. Hi everyone! I’ve been diagnosed with Leukaemia; AML M7 for you nerds out there. It’s been a very interesting experience so far, with a much much longer journey ahead. Doctor says to prepare the brain for a 1 year hiatus from life, and to focus solely on staying alive and surviving the treatment.”
He also went on to say that “So many people are waiting for me to get better, but it will take so much longer to be reunited with anything that makes my heart happy. But fret not, all I need is strength, bravery and hope to fight this battle, if you know me, you know I have those in spades. ❤️ I’ll be back ❤️”
