The show was filmed in four London hospitals: St George’s, St Mary’s, William Harvey and Royal London.

Over four episodes, viewers will get a rare insight into intense medical emergencies - from air ambulances, to treatment at the scene and rehabilitation - and the inspiring patients and staff who survive through these.

What happens in the first episode of Emergency?

Emergency follows  heart-wrenching stories including that of 28-year-old Danilo who is taken to St Mary’s Hospital with a ruptured aorta after a terrible motorbike crash.

Emergency will also feature 58-year-old Peter who suffered a broken pelvis after a 400kg crate crushed his body during a workplace accident.

Staff members also have to handle a large-scale incident when violence on the streets of London gets out of control.

The team helps patients who have been stabbed and are in need of critical medical attention.

What is the London Major Trauma System?

The London Major Trauma System was set up back in April 2010 as a response to the London Bombings in July of 2005.

It is estimated that the London Major Trauma System has increased survival rates by 50 per cent and saved around 610 lives since it was established.

The system involves collaboration between many areas of the health service such as air ambulances, social care and hospitals.

Its aim is to treat severely injured people in London faster and more effectively than if each service operated individually.

It’s the largest trauma system in the UK, providing trauma care for nine million people.

Its creation has inspired other areas across the country to set up their own regional trauma systems.
