The star-studded cast is dripping in British royalty (of the TV kind) and is set to be a hit when it is released in September.

So, who is in the cast and what is Cinderella’s 21 century reboot about? This is what you need to know.

What is the plot of Cinderella (2021)?

A dream is a wish your heart makes - and James Corden’s dream of a Cinderella remake is exactly what viewers can expect.

The British actor and US talk show host’s idea of the musical rom-com has been brought to life by writer and director Kay Cannon.

It involves a downtrodden Ella who doesn’t plan on being confined to her step mother’s basement, a genderless fairy godmother and a feisty self-starter who fights the confides of the patriarchy to become a successful businesswoman.

Ella is a dressmaker with ambitions of travelling the world, but her stepmother has already promised she will marry and settle down with a village man, Thomas.

When a chance meeting leads to the prince falling in love with Ella, she receives an invite to his ball and plans to go and showcase her dresses, but she is stopped by her stepmother.

Along comes an utterly fabulous fairy godmother who ensures Ella will go to the ball, but when the prince asks her to marry him, she declines as she plans to focus on her career.

But will she fall for love or pursue her career - will her dreams really be to become a queen and live happily ever or chase her ambition? You’ll need to watch to find out.

If a TikTok video of James Corden and Camila Cabello stopping traffic in LA while twerking along the road with a flash mob didn’t publicise that they are the stars of Cinderella, then this article is here to inform you in a more subtle manner.

Alongside Corden and pop sensation Cabello, a string of British acting and comedic talent also feature in the film.

Cabello takes on her first acting role as Ella, following huge success as a solo artist since departing from US band Fifth Harmony.

Where was Cinderella filmed?
