One of Hollywood’s biggest stars has become a shock contender to become the next James Bond.

Bookies are reporting that Rocketman actor Taron Egerton is now one of the frontrunners to take the mantle of 007, after Daniel Craig stepped down following a five-film stint. The British actor, 34, has risen through the odds rankings and is now 4/1 for the role.

This places him just behind James Norton (5/6) and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (4/6) - as previously reported by NationalWorld, the latter has apparently already had talks with producers to take on the role, and may even have been presented with a contract.

Egerton already has some experience with spy movies, having starred in the Kingsman franchise alongside the likes of Colin Firth and Mark Strong.

Lee Astley, spokesperson for betideas.com, said: “The search for our next James Bond seems to have taken another twist in the form of Taron Egerton, who has been strongly backed to replace Daniel Craig in the last few days.

“Egerton wasn’t even a selection in the market last week but has now been installed as the third favourite for the role at 4/1, with only long-time favourites Aaron Taylor-Johnson and James Norton ahead of him in the betting.”
