For those who are about to embark on press junkets ahead of the release of “Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning: Part One” that’s released today, be safe in the knowledge that Tom Cruise is happy for you to look him directly in the eyes.

In an interview with The Times alongside collaborators Christopher McQuarrie and Simon Pegg, Cruise was asked to share the weirdest rumour he’s read about himself. Cruise said he was confused by the rumour that people “were not allowed to look me in the eye” during filming.

Simon Pegg, a long-standing actor in the franchise since his debut as Benji Dunn in “Mission: Impossible 3,” chimed in also about the mysterious nature of Tom Cruise and how he had to “hack my way through all the bizarre mythology that surrounds him.”

“On one side he’s Tom Cruise – this enigmatic film star everyone wants to know about. And on the other, he’s just a guy. I like being normal with him” Pegg admitted in the interview, going further to explain Cruise’s action after leaked audio captured him yelling obscenities on the set of the latest film in the franchise.

“Everything that Tom cares about, in terms of his job, was at stake due to the pandemic. For him there was a danger this virus could wipe cinema off the face of this earth.”

Pegg’s reasoning lends credibility once again to the notion that Cruise got angry because the entirety of Hollywood were looking at “Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning” as the litmus test for filming during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I would be like, 'Ooh, there's some weird rumours, and it feels base, it feels a little dirty, it feels grubby, it’s not what I’m about,'" she explains. "Why are things being assumed or projected onto me about my relationship with my work colleague and boss?"

"When I’ve talked to him about it, he’d be like, 'You know exactly who you are. You know what you’re about. And that is the only thing that matters. It doesn’t matter what people think of you, if you are in integrity with yourself, if you know what your value system is,'" she shared.
