David Corenswet has been official revealed as the new Man of Steel in James Gunn’s upcoming “Superman: Legacy” reboot

After a chaotic few months to start his tenure as co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios, there is finally some stability for James Gunn ahead of his “Superman: Legacy” project. It was announced overnight after weeks of speculation who would be Clark Kent aka Superman (or should that be Superman aka Clark Kent?) and who would be Lois Lane in the forthcoming Superman reboot.

Taking the role of Lois Lane is Rachel Broshanahan, best known for her role in the Amazon Video period comedy series “The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel,” but the big announcement everyone was waiting for was who will finally take over wearing the cape once adorned by Henry Cavill, Brandon Routh and Christopher Reeves?

That distinct honour is now bestowed onto David Corenswet, who gained recognition for his role as River on Ryan Murphy's Netflix series "The Politician" and went on to star in another Murphy production, the period drama "Hollywood," where he also served as an executive producer.

Prior to these breakthrough roles, he made guest appearances on shows like "House of Cards" and "Elementary." In 2022, Corenswet played David McDougall in the HBO limited series "We Own This City" from the creators of "The Wire." Additionally, he has impressed audiences with his performances in critically acclaimed films such as the A24 drama "Pearl" and the Netflix rom-com "Look Both Ways."

His role as Superman has come a long way since his humble beginnings; born and raised in Philadelphia, Corenswet developed his acting skills from a young age and went on to study at the prestigious Juilliard School. While still in college, he showcased his talents as a writer, director, and actor in the YouTube sketch comedy series "Moe & Jerryweather.

"Superman: Legacy" isn't the only blockbuster on Corenswet's horizon; he is also set to star in the upcoming "Twister" sequel titled "Twisters," directed by Lee Isaac Chung

Corenswet was one of a shortlist of three actors who were ultimately considered for the role; the other two happened to be both British actors that television viewers will be familiar with.

Nicolas Hoult was considered for the lead role, given his experience with superhero franchises before with his role as Hank McCoy/Beast in the X-Men prequels, while Tom Brittney of “Grantchester” fame was also in the running to play the Man of Steel.

Interestingly, the names that Rachel Broshanahan beat out in order to play Lois Lane included a PeopleWorld favourite - “Bridgerton” actress Phoebe Dynevor, while “Sex Education” star Emma Mackey was also in final consideration for the role.

All eyes are now on who will portray Lex Luthor in the reboot, with both Alexander and Bill Skarsgaard the two leading candidates to take on the role.
