Has Fallout 3 Remastered been announced? Rumours of remastered version explained - is the original version on Xbox Game Pass?
Rumours have been swirling for years around a remaster of some of the biggest installments in the Fallout franchise.
The beloved game franchise first hit shelves in 1997 but hit its pinnacle with the 2008 release of Fallout 3. The title went on to sell more than 12 million units for studio Bethesda, with sequels Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 4 adding to the popular franchise.
As a game beloved by players, there have been rumours for years about a possible remaster of both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.
The rumour mill was pushed into full flow after official court documents were leaked amid Xbox’s acquisition of Bethesda in 2021, which explicitly mentioned a remaster of Fallout 3.
While there hasn’t been an official announcement from Bethesda, fans have been hinging their hopes on a remaster coming soon as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was also mentioned in this document, which shadow dropped in April 2025.
Some Fallout fans also further added to speculation after experiencing issues when attempting to leave reviews on Steam. A small number of users have received a pop-up informing them that they cannot leave reviews for games which have not been released yet, as well as only 10 out of the 12 games in the series searchable on the platform.
Now, with the season two finale of the Amazon Prime television adaptation of Fallout approaching, some fans think that an announcement may be imminent. However, an insider has put these rumours to rest (for now at least).
Windows Central editor and Xbox insider Jez Corden wrote in a recent article: “I'm told Fallout 3 and New Vegas remakes aren't exactly 'imminent' and you shouldn't expect them in the near term. I'm still trying to lock down more detailed timings on when we should see them appear but the impression I'm getting is that we'll see Fallout 3 remastered before New Vegas."
Recent media reports that Fallout 3 Remaster is now available on Xbox Game Pass are therefore false.
However, fans of the series can still play the original version of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas in the Premium tier of Xbox Game Pass right now. Other titles in the series are also available at both the Essential and Premium tiers of Xbox Game Pass.
