The ‘new’ game brings together two of the Uncharted series’ most impressive entries and gives them a lick of graphical paint

2022 is a big year for fans of Sony’s Uncharted franchise of PlayStation games.

Not only is the long-awaited big screen adaptation finally hitting cinemas screens in February, but gamers have a chance to get their hands on Nathan Drake and Chloe Frazer’s recent adventures one more time.

The Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection brings together the two most recent mainline games in the series, reworked for a modern audience.

Here is everything you need to know about it.

What is Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection?

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection bundles together updated versions of 2016’s Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and 2017’s Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.

Both games have been remastered to take advantage of the next-generation hardware of the PlayStation 5 console.

“With PS5 technology,” say developers Naughty Dog, “we’re excited to share Nathan Drake and Chloe Frazer’s stories on this console generation in even greater detail and fidelity in tandem.”

That means the games can now support a fidelity mode that allows for a crisp, native 4K resolution that shows off Uncharted’s pristine graphics at their best.

There’s also a performance mode in which the games run at a super smooth 60 frames per second, and a Performance+ Mode, which targets a blistering 120 frames per second (for those who own a display that can handle such rates) at a reduced resolution.

Aside from graphical and performance improvements, the new versions of the games also take advantage of the PS5’s super fast SSD hard drive, which makes for near instantaneous load times.

And then there’s the console’s inventive ‘DualSense’ controllers, which use haptic feedback to communicate physical sensations to the player, immersing them in the world of the game even more.

The Legacy of Thieves Collection will also make frequent use of this technology.

Both games’ cinematic single-player campaigns will be included in the collection, though unfortunately, neither multiplayer modes are included.

Where’s the best place to pre-order it?

The game can be pre-ordered through Amazon for £39.99.

Players who own Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, or Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End & Uncharted: The Lost Legacy Digital Bundle can upgrade to Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Digital Version £10 through the PlayStation store.

There is also an Uncharted movie ticket offer which lets fans of the games get a free ticket to the big-screen adaptation starring Tom Holland and Mark Walhberg.

Between now and 3 February players in the UK who purchase or upgrade to Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection on PS5 via the PlayStation Store will receive a voucher code for one ticket to see the film in participating cinemas.

The ticket code will be delivered via email on or around 9 February, and the full terms of the offer can be found here.

When can I play it?

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection will release on Friday 28 January exclusively for PlayStation 5.

A PC version of the collection will be released later in 2022.
