When is the Brit Awards 2022? Nominations, what time it’s on TV, who are the performers, and who is the host

Adele will perform at tonight’s (8 February) Brit Awards, and will join Ed Sheeran, Liam Gallagher, rapper Dave, and more in performing live at the ceremony.

Media reports suggested she had been due to appear at the event but had pulled out, but an Instagram post from the star confirmed this was not the case.

It comes after she postponed her Las Vegas residency at short notice, with Grammy-winning country music star Keith Urban stepping in to replace her.

But what else can we expect from the ceremony, and how can you watch it on TV?

When are the Brit Awards 2022?

The ceremony will take place on Tuesday 8 February live from The O2 Arena in London.

It will be hosted by comedian Mo Gilligan, who replaces Jack Whitehall, who has helmed the event in recent years.

Gilligan has said he was “shocked” but honoured to take the prestigious role, adding that he wants it to feel like a “party”.

Who is nominated?

The Brits has faced pressure to do away with its male and female-specific awards, and has scrapped gendered categories for the 2022 awards ceremony, introducing gender-neutral gongs in their place.

Nominations this year feature the most women in more than a decade, with 18 female artists or all-women groups receiving nods; in 2000 and 2001, 18 female acts were also nominated.

The most nominated stars are Adele, Ed Sheeran, Little Simz, and Dave – who are each up for four gongs. They will compete against Sam Fender for the inaugural artist of the year award.

Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, and Lil Nas X are each up for two and will battle it out against Taylor Swift for the international artist of the year award.

Sir Elton John has received his first Brit nomination in 20 years, in the song of the year category for his collaboration with Dua Lipa – who is also nominated for the best pop/R&B act gong.

Other nominees include Joy Crookes, Coldplay, Little Mix, Central Cee, David Guetta, and KSI.

Musician Inflo has been named as an early winner of the producer of the year award ahead of the ceremony, saying that as “the first black music producer to ever win a Brit for best producer, I feel honoured to be a part of change”.

The record producer and songwriter, whose real name is Dean Josiah Cover, has produced and co-written for some of the biggest names in British music including Adele, Little Simz and Michael Kiwanuka.

Who is performing?

Rapper Little Simz and singer Holly Humberstone, who was named this year’s rising star by the Brits, will also perform alongside Ed Sheeran, Liam Gallagher and rapper Dave during the event.

American star Doja Cat had been scheduled to appear, but has been forced to cancel her performance after members of her crew tested positive for Covid-19.

The artist tweeted that "numerous members" of her crew "both on and off stage" had the virus.

How can I watch it on TV?

The Brit Awards 2022 ceremony will take place on Tuesday 8 February at The O2 arena in London.

It will be broadcast live on ITV and ITV Hub between 8pm and 10.30pm.

The Brits are also working with Blue Light Tickets, a free service through which emergency service workers can enter a ballot to come to the show.

Organisers gave 2,500 tickets to last year’s ceremony to people working on the front line of the pandemic from the Greater London area.

In response to the Omicron variant, artists, nominees and guests will be asked to show a negative lateral flow test result on arrival to The O2.
