BTS’ Jin and j-hope bid Suga farewell at encore concert, as he enlists for military service + setlist

It feels like each week, PeopleWorld reports about the latest member of the K-Pop community signing up for mandatory military service in South Korea. We already saw two members of Monsta X pay their farewells on social media to netizens, but when you’re in one of the biggest K-Pop groups on the planet, a simple 이따 봐 (itta bwa) on Instagram doesn’t seem enough.

Not enough for BTS’s Suga, anyway - whose big farewell to fans and netizens alike over the weekend, performing what has been referred to as his “encore” concerts, “D-DAY THE FINAL,” that were held in Seoul last weekend (August 4, 5 and 6 2023). The entire event was almost a BTS concert in itself, given the members that were in attendance both on stage and in the audience.

Fans were treated to three surprises across the three-day farewell event, with BTS members Jungkook, Jimin and RM joining Suga onstage each day, while two members who have already enlisted, J-Hope and Jin, stunned fans by appearing in the audience on the final day of the event. 

As reported originally by Soompi, Suga met up with members of the band he performed with backstage, with Jin sharing photos of the meet-up through his Instagram account, while HYBE Corporation and BTS’s TwitterX account shared solo images of Suga with Jungkook, Jimim and RM.

Suga, real name Min Yoon-gi, began the necessary measures to enlist for his mandatory military service earlier today (August 7) and is expected to return around February 2024 - 18 months after his initial enlistment. Though there have been calls for acts like BTS to be exempt from mandatory military service owing to the success they have brought to South Korean culture, none of the members have ever expressed their discontent in undergoing their national duty.
