Doja Cat’s admission her last two albums where cash grabs surely isn’t a good omen to promote her new album, right?

We’re no marketing experts here at PeopleWorld, but we do think that when discussing a brand new album coming out, calling your last two popular albums cash grabs - and that your fanbase fell for it - isn’t a good tactic. However, that’s the position artist Doja Cat finds herself in, as she revealed the title of her next album and seemingly mocked the popularity of her last two works.

But digging a little deeper into her comments, it would appear that the toll of her last two works, Planet Her in 2021 and Hot Pink in 2019, might have led to creative burnout for the 27-year-old performer. “Planet Her and Hot Pink were cash-grabs and [sic] yall fell for it,” Doja Cat tweeted. “Now I can go disappear somewhere and touch grass with my loved ones on an island while yall weep for mediocre pop.”

However before quickly admonishing Doja Cat, real name Amala Zandile Dlamini, and her treatment of fans who propelled her to success of the strength of the aforementioned albums, there is the perspective that this was more a shot at record companies and A&R representatives pushing the artist into a creative box - if her follow up tweets are anything to go by.

When prompted about what has caused her comments on social media, Doja Cat alluded to starting to feel the strain after her performance at Coachella 2022 and doing a “bunch of s**t” she didn’t fully invest her creativity in and stated it was simply “cranking out digestible pop hits for children on twitter to get into fights about.” A number of those tracks on those two albums were produced by Dr. Luke; the controversial music head who was embroiled in a court case involving Ke$ha in October 2014.

“My comment section on IG used to be only positivity because I was doing what everyone wanted me to do and I love that I can see through all the bulls**t now,” she tweeted. “It’s nice. Much love to everybody else that's been down since day one. I appreciate it.”

Between the admissions though, we did find out that the title of Doja Cat’s next album will be “First of All” rather than “hEllMoUth” as she previously indicated.

Take a lot of this though with a pinch of salt; Doja Cat can sometimes be an unreliable narrator of her own story at times and has been known for her ironic tweets and meme-worthy moments. Remember, this is the musician who declared she would retire in 2022, so though the “cash-grab” comments to her fanbase might be tongue-in-cheek, perhaps there is an air of truth regarding her creative output.
