Glastonbury 2023 has seen a wave of blowback after announcing the first series of artists set to perform later this year at Worthy Farm, including this year’s headliners. Despite being an almost 50:50 split of gender balance, many are still not happy that not one headliner this year is a female - despite the level of talent included in the first announcement.

In what appears to be a retort to the online criticisms, Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis has revealed that two of the three headliners almost locked in for 2024’s event are female musicians that have yet to perform at Glastonbury during their musical careers. Which, for PeopleWorld, sadly rules out Madonna headlining next year.

She did reveal in an interview with The Guardian that there was a female headliner planned for the 2023 festival but had to pull out due to international touring commitments - leading to Guns ‘n’ Roses being booked as the final headliner. Perhaps that piece of information has played into musician Lana Del Rey’s cryptic position on performing at Glastonbury this year.

A source close to the singer revealed to The Sun on Sunday that the musician was unhappy to be an ‘afterthought’ after the all-male headliner announcement and the event poster itself. Lana’s inclusion was buried deep within the poster, despite her years of service in the music industry, landing her several awards including the Visionary Award at the recent Billboard Women in Music ceremony.

Taking to social media, Del Rey informed followers that “well, I’m actually headlining the 2nd stage. But since there was no consideration for announcing that we’ll see.” It’s the final two words from her post that have left fans worried about a last-minute cancellation for the (rightfully) underplayed announcement of Del Rey.
