Why I am so angry that everybody is talking about Madonna’s age and face as she recovers from infection

Madonna has postponed her tour after spending several days in ICU but all everyone wants to talk about is her age, face and how she has been overdoing it

I didn’t realise how big a Madonna fan I was until this morning. You may think this is a strange statement to make, but let me explain myself. The poor woman is recovering from a serious bacterial infection and has spent several days in ICU, but all everyone wants to talk about (again!) is how much work she has done on her face and her age!

Obviously, everyone is entitled to their opinion when it comes to the ‘work’ Madonna has or hasn’t done on her face over the years, but what has this got to do with her being in hospital? I was also not surprised to read words such as ‘Madonna has been rehearsing strenuously for her world tour’ perhaps alluding that this was the reason behind her stay in hospital? (when clearly this is just speculation).

It unfortunately all goes back to what Madonna has had to endure for years, blatant sexism. Why are so many people fixated on how she looks and how she acts? Do the likes of Mick Jagger (who is incidentally 79 years old), get told to act their age and stop strutting on stage? The simple answer is NO!

For those who criticise Madonna and say she is 64 years old, and should start acting her age, I would ask them back, what does acting one’s age even mean nowadays? As for the idea of embracing her age and being natural, grey hair and all, who is anyone to tell anyone how to look?

Why for example is it ‘fair game’ to constantly attack Madonna for her physical appearance when the likes of Tom Cruise seem to be lauded for their ‘youthful looks’ with such headlines as ‘How does Tom Cruise maintain his youthful looks?’ and ‘Why Tom Cruise looks better than ever’

Let’s compare some of these Tom Cruise headlines to some Madonna ones… ‘Why can’t an iconic rebel like Madonna embrace ageing?’ ‘Why can’t Madonna age gracefully?’ ‘Why can’t Madonna handle ageing?’

Mmm, shall I rest my case?

Well, perhaps not just yet.

The issue I have is that it is not only men who are writing these articles, it is women too! This unfortunately makes me even more angry, if that is even possible? I don’t care if a man decides to have plastic surgery, I don’t care if a woman decides to, why should it make any difference?

I am hoping that Madonna recovers as quickly as possible from her bacterial infection and is able to return to her passion of recording music and touring as soon as possible. I can’t wait to see her return to the stage and look forward to her wearing the most risqué outfits possible.

The more risqué the better!

Get well soon Madonna! We all need you back at your fighting best, well I certainly do!
