Stone Roses legend Gary 'Mani' Mounfield has died at the age of 63, his brother has confirmed.
Stone Roses bassist Gary 'Mani' Mounfield has passed away at the age of 63, it has been confirmed. The sad news was announced by his brother, Greg, in a social media post today (November 20).
Known to millions simply as Mani, the musician shot to fame with the Stone Roses in the late 1980s and early '90s, on the back of hits including Fool's Gold and She Bangs The Drum.
"It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce the sad passing of my brother. RIP RKID," Greg said.
Ian Brown, frontman of the Stone Roses, paid tribute online, saying: "Rest in peace Mani X."

After the Roses split in 1996 following the release of second album, Second Coming, Mani joined fellow Madchester icons, Primal Scream, alongside Bobby Gillespie, claiming they were one of only three bands he would have considered joining - the others being the Jesus and Mary Chain, and Oasis.
He also stood in on bass for fellow Britpoppers, Ocean Colour Scene, during a 2003 tour, before rejoining his Primal Scream bandmates for numerous tours and releases. However, in 2011, he left the band to rejoin the Stone Roses for a series of reunion shows.
A stalwart Manchester United fan, Mani was born in Crumpsall, in the city, in 1962 and became a staple of the burgeoning indie scene in the late 80s and early 90s.
He was married to Imelda after the couple met during the recording of Second Coming, and they shared twin sons. However, tragically, Imelda passed away due to cancer in 2023.
