London became the hip-hop capital of the world last weekend, with not only the 2023 Wireless Festival taking place at Finsbury Park, but also Canadian performer The Weeknd took over the London Stadium for two nights, as part of his “After Hours Til Dawn” world tour. Though normally on a Monday morning, we’d be talking about the most recent episode of his television show, “The Idol,” instead it’s praise for Abel Tesfaye rather than ridicule.

Social media posts are suggesting that The Weeknd’s two performances at London Stadium, home to Europa Conference League champions West Ham, now hold the record for the largest turnout across two nights of any tour, as well as the record for the largest turnout for a single night of any tour at the venue.

Figures stated by the Twitter account suggest that 80,000 people had attended both the Friday and Saturday performance, with a total of 160,000 across both nights that has led The Weeknd to hold the record; the last record attendance at the London Stadium was 62,500, when West Ham United opened their 2022/2023 Premier League season - the biggest in the club’s 127-year-history.

There have however been some that are dubious of the record setting claims; no mention as of writing has been made by the London Stadium team themselves to acknowledge if the record is indeed The Weeknd’s to hold, and others have pointed out that the maximum capacity for the stadium is 80,000. That would mean the show would have had to have sold out and every single person with a ticket would have had to have shown up.

The tour continues this week with The Weeknd performing tomorrow in Brussels, followed by Frankfurt, Madrid, Barcelona and Nice before continuing on to Eastern Europe and then South America.
