Channel 5 series All Creatures Great and Small, which is a remake of the original show which ran from 1978-1990, follows the life of legendary 20th century vet James Herriot.

The series is returning for a third season, having wrapped filming in Yorkshire in July this year.

The main cast will reprise their roles as the characters experience the outbreak of the Second World War and its effects on their fictional Yorkshire Dales village of Darrowby.

What is the plot of season 3?

Season three will be set in 1939 against the backdrop of the onset of the Second World War.

James will deal with feelings of guilt as he But he stays in England to continue his work and help to fight a TB epidemic as other young lads go off to war in France.

James and Helen will continue their blossoming romance this season and Tristan will take on new responsibilities.

The Channel 5 synopsis states: "After being made joint business partner by Siegfried, James pushes to take on more responsibility via the Ministry of Agriculture’s new bovine TB testing scheme, but its unexpected challenges risk pushing him to breaking point.

"As a potential Second World War looms, all of our Skeldale family have to consider their purpose in Darrowby and beyond."

The new season will also feature a wedding episode as James and Helen, who got engaged in season two, will tie the knot.

The series is based on the life of James Alfred Wight, known by his pen name James Herriot, who worked as a vet in the Yorkshire Dales for nearly five decades and wrote a series of books about the veterinary practice.

When is All Creatures Great and Small season 3 on TV?

All Creatures Great and Small season three will begin on Channel 5 at 9 pm Thursday 15 September.

The episode will be repeated at 5pm on 17 September and 8pm on 20 September.

There will be seven episodes in season three and future episodes will air at the same time weekly and will be available to watch on My5 shortly after they are first broadcast. All of seasons 1-2 are also available to watch on My 5 now.

The series will begin airing in the US on PBS at 9 pm (ET) Sunday 8 January 2022.

Will there be a season 4 of All Creatures Great and Small?

Yes, Channel 5 has already confirmed that there will be a fourth season of All Creatures Great and Small which will contain seven episodes.

There is no word yet on when season four will air, but it is likely to be in September 2023 as previous seasons have all been released that month.
