The ultimate musicals showdown is back with a new celebrity line up embarking on the all-star masterclass.

Six celebrities will face mentoring from some of the world’s biggest musical theatre superstars, including Elaine Page OBE and Samantha Barks.

Here’s all you need to know about the new All Stars Musical.

What is All Stars Musical about:

Hosted by John Barrowman, All Stars Musical sees celebrities face the ultimate musical masterclass, before a performance at the end of the show.

The celebrities will be equipped for their performances with wisdom from some world-class theatre performers, as well as training from West End choreographers and vocal coaches.

Each celebrity will be accompanied by an ensemble and a live orchestra to make their performances show-stopping.

The musicals featured will range from traditional to contemporary performances.

Viewers can expect to hear songs from Frozen, Les Miserables, 42nd Street and Hamilton.

Elaine Page OBE, Samantha Barks, Trevor Dion Nicholas (Hamilton & Aladdin) and host John Barrowman MBE will open the show with a performance from one of the most popular musicals of all time, Grease.

Viewers can also expect a special 35th West End anniversary performance from the stars of Phantom of the Opera.

Six celebrities have signed up to attempt the All Star Musicals challenge.

ITV News and Good Morning Britain’s own Alex Beresford is the first celebrity joining the line-up.

Beresford told ITV “There’s a fine line between panic and excitement, but I can’t wait to challenge myself and feel the thrill of performing a musical number in front of a crowd.”

Joining Beresford on  the celebrity line-up is actress Jacqueline Jossa.

Jossa portrayed Lauren Branning in BBC soap opera Eastenders for eight years.

The actress is known for pushing herself out of her comfort zone after she won Jungle Queen on the 2019 season of I’m A Celebrity.

Wildlife presenter Michaela Strachan is also testing her musical prowess.

Strachan presents BBC’s nature watch programmes seasonally on BBC One, including Springwatch and Autumnwatch.

The presenter told ITV how excited she was to be involved in the show, saying “As a wildlife presenter, I don’t often get the chance to swap the walking boots and outdoor gear for something sparkly!”

Coronation Street actress Lisa George will also be performing on All Stars Musical.

The actress has played Beth Tinker on the ITV soap since 1997 and also placed fifth in the 2020 series of Dancing on Ice.

The fifth celebrity joining the line-up is actor Colin Salmon.

Salmon is known for playing Charles Robinson in three of the James Bond movies, including the 1997 Tomorrow Never Dies.

Rugby star Danny Care is the last celebrity to flex his musical muscles.

Care plays for the Harlequins in the premiership and played for England for 10 years between 2008 and 2018.

The rugby player took to Twitter to tease fans about his upcoming performance, saying “Yep…still happening.” alongside a photo of him in his costume.

Who are the host and celebrity mentors?

Hosting the show is British television personality John Barrowman MBE.

Barrowman is a British-American actor, author, presenter, singer and comic book writer.

He is best known for his role in Doctor Who and Torchwood but has also been a judge for ITV’s Dancing on Ice, as well as facing the bushtucker trials of I’m A Celebrity.

Mentoring the celebrities are three world class musical performers.

Elaine Page OBE is a singer and actress who most notably won the Laurence Olivier Award for Performance of the Year for her role as Eva Perón in the first production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita.

The actress has also performed in musicals such as Cats and Anything Goes, as well as releasing a number of solo and compilation albums of her work.

Joining Page in the mentoring cast is actress Samantha Barks.

Barks performed in the role of Eponine in the 2010 stage production of Les Miserables where she was selected to reprise her role in the 2012 movie adaptation.

The actress is currently performing as Ice Queen Elsa in the stage adaptation of Disney’s Frozen.

The last mentor for the show is Trevor Dion Nicholas.

Nicholas has previously performed as the Genie in the musical adaptation of Aladdin with a recording of the play set to come out this year.

The actor is currently starring in the London production of hit musical Hamilton where he plays American president George Washington.

How to watch All Stars Musical

All Stars Musical returns to ITV on Sunday April 3 2022.

The show starts at 7:30pm and will be available on ITV Hub after it has aired.
