Anyone Can Sing will see six aspiring singers put through their paces as their voices are transformed.

The participants will discover all the joys of singing, and build their skills and confidence in order for them to comfortably perform for a live audience - in just three short months.

They will be mentored and prepared for the performance by English National Opera’s world-class vocal coaches. This will provide the contestants with everything they need from vocal technique to stage presence.

They will be tasked with a series of musical challenges to ultimately help take their singing potential to the next level.

Who is taking part in Anyone Can Sing?

In the first episode, we see ten participants whittled down to just six, all with their own particular reasons for wanting to take on the challenge.

Luke, 30, who developed a stammer and Tourette's syndrome, found that the effects of his physical tics actually disappear when he sings.

Shirley, 66, is a west London concierge whose confidence has unfortunately been shattered by an illness.

London transport manager, Chris, 47, plays the guitar, but has never had the confidence to sing along with his music.

A former waitress from Wrexham, Khadijah, 26, is passionate about doing something more creative.

An Electrician from London, Rico, 40, purely just wanted to give himself a challenge, and to experience something new.

Reverend Ellen, 59, Dean of King’s College London, was afraid to sing after being told that her voice was weedy and tentative. She was always determined to sing during hymn service, and believes this will give her the confidence to do so in the future.

Who is mentoring contestants on Anyone Can Sing?

The English National Opera’s world-class vocal coaches - Nicky Spence, Sarah Pring and Michael Harper will be mentoring the would-be singers throughout the process, with occasional help from singing superstars, such as Katherine Jenkins, along the way.

Nicky Spence, is a globally recognised music artist who usually performs to large crowds in Opera, Oratorio, and Recital. He was trained at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and National Opera Studio, and has performed in the UK, as well as internationally.

Sarah Pring is a Mezzo-soprano, and studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and at the National Opera Studio. She began her career at Glyndebourne (opera house), gaining the Sir John Christie Award, and also the ESSO Touring Award, for roles including Despina Cosi fan Tutte.

She spent the first 10 years of her professional life as a soprano, later changing to a mezzo-soprano in her 30s.

Michael Harper is an international singer, music teacher and workshop facilitator. He has performed in opera and concerts throughout Europe,  China and in the United States.

Michael initially studied at Virginia Commonwealth University, receiving a Master of Music Degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where he also did further doctoral studies, before going on to study opera in London.

Anyone Can Sing will be showing on Sky Arts.
