Caroline Crouch: what happened to British woman in Greece and when is The Murder That Fooled the World on TV?

The killing of Caroline Crouch by her husband Babis Anagnostopoulos and the events leading up to her death are the focus of a new Channel 5 documentary

Caroline Crouch was born in Liverpool and moved to Greece at the age of eight with her British father, David Crouch, and her Filipina mother, Susan Dela Cuesta.

She was raised on the island of Alonissos.

But what happened to Caroline Crouch and when is Caroline: The Murder the Fooled the World on TV?

What happened to Caroline Crouch?

On 11 May 2021, Crouch was found dead in her home near Athens aged 20. Her body was discovered after her husband, Babi Anagnostopoulos, reported the crime to the police.

She was found in her bed in Athens next to her 11-month-old daughter, after being suffocated as she slept.

Her child was found to be unharmed after the incident.

Anagnostopoulos, 33, initially told the officers that his wife had been killed by a gang of foreign burglars during a robbery at their home. Anagnostopoulos said that he and Crouch were both tied up.

However, after a lengthy investigation, the police said his story did not add up.

When they checked some technical devices, they found Crouch’s biometric watch which revealed her pulse readings on the day she died.

According to a statement by the Hellenic Police, he later confessed to smothering Crouch with a pillow in front of their baby following an argument.

The statement said: “Investigation of the homicide of a 20-year-old native that took place on 11 May 2021 in Glyka Nera.

"The perpetrator is her 33-year-old husband, who confessed to his act.”

Crouch met Anagnostopoulos on Alonissos and the couple married in Portugal in 2019. In June 2020, they welcomed their daughter.

Who is Babis Anagnostopoulos?

Anagnostopoulos is a Greek pilot who was arrested for the murder of his wife in June 2021.

He confessed to the murder after Crouch said she was leaving him.

He admitted to smothering her to death after over eight hours of interrogation in the homicide department of Athens’ police headquarters.

Police described him as a “top-class actor” after staging the crime scene, of him being handcuffed to the floor and having duct tape over his eyes and mouth.
