Emily in Paris season 2: release date UK, cast including Lily Collins and Lucas Bravo - trailer and plot

Emily in Paris is an escapist comedy drama which proved immensely popular when the first season came to Netflix in November 2020.

The show, set in a world without Covid where people can travel freely proved to be the ultimate in wish fulfillment.

Emily in Paris was Netflix’s was the most viewed comedy series when it was released, being watched by over 58 million people.

And on 18 November, there was even more fuss when the official trailer for season two teased more travels, cute outfits, dates and feel good viewing.

So, what is the latest season about and who will star in the cast? This is what you need to know.

The wait is over, Emily in Paris returned for a second season on 22 December 2021.

Who stars in Emily in Paris season 2?

Lily Collins (Mirror Mirror; Love, Rosie) reprised role as the title character, Emily Cooper.

Speaking on Instagram about her return to the French-based drama, she said: “As an actor, an artist, and a creative, the most meaningful gift is to connect with people through your art in some way. It’s an honour to be associated with a project that provided people with some much-needed relief during a trying time when everyone was looking for a reason to smile and laugh.

"Not only did playing Emily teach me more about myself, but also about the world around me. I couldn’t be happier to be back in Paris for Season 2 to expand upon those lessons, to continue to grow, and learn even more about this beautiful city and all of its character with Emily."

Camille Razat also returns as Parisian Camille, Emily’s best friend and confidant, alongside Emily’s other friend, Mindy, played by Ashley Park.

Philippine Leroy Beaulieu (Call My Agent!) returns as Sylvie, Emily’s boss at Savoir and Lucas Bravo (Smart Ass) is back on the scene, as chef and love interest of Emily’s, Gabriel.

Waterloo Road’s Lucien Laviscount will also join the cast, and by the looks of the official snaps from production he could be giving Gabriel a run for his money, as he joins as Alfie, a British Expat who Emily meets in French class.

His addition to the cast goes some way in ironing out the issue of diversity in the first season, which despite the rave reviews, did not go unnoticed.

In an interview with Elle in November, co-producer and actress for the series, Cooper said: “For me as Emily, but also as a producer on [the show], after season one, hearing people’s thoughts, concerns, questions, likes, dislikes, just feelings about it, there were certain things that spoke to the time that we’re living in and what’s right, and moral and correct and should be done.

“And [that was] something that I felt passionate about. [The producers] all believed in the same things. And I really wanted diversity and inclusion in front of and behind the camera to be something that we really put our focus on, in a lot of ways.

"Hiring new people in front of the camera, also giving new storylines to different characters, which was really important."

Also returning for season two is Samuel Arnold (Antony & Cleopatra) and Bruno Gouery (Doc Martin) as Emily’s co-workers, Julien and Luc.

William Abadie (Resident Evil: Extinction) returns as Emily’s client, Antoine, and Kate Walsh stars as Emily’s American boss, Madeline Wheeler.

What happened in Emily in Paris season one?

The first season of the show follows Emily, a twenty-something Marketing Executive from Chicago, who is searching for a big career break.

And when she finds the job of her dreams at Savior agency in Paris, Emily moves to the city of love and encounters quite the culture shock.

The season revolves around Emily’s attempts to find good friends, prove herself at Savior, navigate the city that feels a million miles away from her home in Chicago.

When she becomes entwined in a love triangle with her neighbour, Gabriel, and his girlfriend Camille, things become difficult and all her efforts to fit in are put at risk.

What happens in season two?

From the trailer, it looks like Emily is taking France by the french-horns and settling into a life of adventure, work and new experiences.

Collins said of the upcoming series: “Emily has to make a very distinct separation between her personal life and her professional life.

“Camille is one of her closest friends in Paris, and she’s also a colleague and client at Savoir. Pursuing Gabriel would potentially interfere with both a friendship and her career, which continues to be extremely important to Emily.”

Emily meets Alfie, a British expat, at French class and she soon feels at ease around him , as he shares a lack of knowledge about his adopted city.

“[He] comes from London and unlike Emily is totally disinterested in Paris,” says series creator Darren Star (who also produced Sex in The City).

“He really doesn’t want to be here, doesn’t find the country appealing, and is only here for his job. When they meet in French class, they’re really opposites, but they’re still both outsiders in a new city. That connects them.”

Emily and her friends will continue to travel to beautiful French locales including St Tropez, Versailles and Père Lachaise.

Also teased in the trailer is a shot of Gabriel in Emily’s kitchen, while Alfie is seen with her at the EIffel Tower. Could another love triangle be about to arise?
