FBoy Island 2022: what is new BBC series about, UK release date, contestants, and who is host Nikki Glaser?

The first episode of FBoy Island is airing tonight (20 April) at 10pm on BBC Three.

The HBO Max reality dating show was a hit in the US. From The Bachelor creator, Elan Gale, Fboy Island takes a new approach to the dating show genre and is hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser.

Here’s all you need to know about FBoy Island.

What is FBoy Island about?

FBoy Island sees three female contestants who are all looking for love, sent to the island where they are joined by 24 men, where the happy couple can win a $100,000 prize at the end of the series.

The twist is that while half of the men are seriously looking for romance, the other half are self proclaimed “fboys” or players, who aren’t typically respectful to women and are only participating for the prize money.

Throughout the 10 episode series, the three contestants have to separate the good guys from the players and send the bad guys home in the hope of leaving the island with true love and the cash prize.

BBC Three controller, Fiona Campbell told Variety: “This series completely flips the dating show concept on its head which makes it fun and captivating viewing. It has a lot of humour and heart and although it shouldn’t be taken too seriously, it does leave enough room for real romance. It’s already been received really well in the U.S. and we think it will be a great addition to our original commissions on BBC Three.”

Who is Nikki Glaser?

Nikki Glaser is an American stand-up comedian, actress, podcast, radio and television host. She is known for her ruthlessly honest style of comedy.

She got her big break in stand-up comedy on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and has gone on to feature on Comedy Central Roasts” and Jimmy Kimmel Live. Last year she hosted the first ever MTV Movie and TV Awards: Unscripted special for reality TV.

She had her own shows on Comedy Central including You Up with Nikki Glaser and Not Safe with Nikki Glaser and now has a daily podcast which is simply called The Nikki Glaser Podcast.

She has a net worth of $2 million.

Speaking about her hosting gig on FBoy Island, Nikki told The Insider: “Hosting this show was a true dream. I look forward to hosting the next 43 seasons… I already know what happens and I can’t wait to watch it every week.”

Who are the FBoy Island contestants?

Sarah, CJ and Nakia are the three women looking for love on the show.

Sarah Emig is a 25-year-old social media manager who studied psychology and science business at university and says she is done going out with “players”.

CJ Franco told Bustle that she likes men who are “young, hot and dumb”. The 30-year-old works as a model and content creator and has previously done comedy, performing stand-up at The Comedy Store in Hollywood.

Finally, Nakia is 28 and works in the music industry as a stylist and make-up artist, but hopes to become a pop musical artist herself. She released a single titled Just Like Me in October 2020 which has a music video on YouTube. She says that the men on FBoy Island “look like angels but are really the devil.”
