When will Gaslit be released?

The eight-part series will release its first episode on 24 April.

A new episode will be released every week, until the show finishes with the finale on 12 June.

It is being released to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Watergate scandal.

What is the plot of Gaslit?

Gaslit follows the lesser-known characters that were caught up in President Nixon’s Watergate scandal.

The series looks at the attorney general John N Mitchell played by Sean Penn and his outspoken wife, Martha Mitchell played by Julia Roberts.

Martha Mitchell was the first person to publicly question Nixon’s role in the Watergate scandal, leading to a dramatic outcome for her and her husband, who must decide whether he has to be loyal to his wife, or his President.

Even though the show is set around the Watergate scandal, President Nixon is unlikely to make an appearance, with the series focussing on Martha Mitchell and her husband John.

Julia Roberts as Martha Mitchell

Julia Roberts plays the role of Martha Mitchell, the feisty, outspoken wife of Arkansas attorney general John Mitchell, who is the first to speak out openly about President Nixon, much to her husband’s horror.

Oscar winner Roberts is Hollywood royalty, best known for her iconic performances in Pretty Woman alongside Richard Gere and Notting Hill, alongside Hugh Grant.

Sean Penn as John N Mitchell

Sean Penn is completely unrecognisable in his role of John N Mitchell, donning a full face of ageing make-up to play the Arkansas attorney general. Penn’s character Mitchell is caught in the middle between his loyalty to his career and the President and his feisty wife, who isn’t shy of talking to the press.

Penn, who also has an Oscar under his belt, is most known for his role as Harvey Milk, in the film Milk that depicted his life.

Dan Stevens as John Dean

Dan Stevens plays John Dean, a lawyer in Nixon’s White House. Dean and John Mitchell played key roles in the Watergate scandal, with Dean standing to lose everything if the truth comes out.

Steves is most well known for his role as Matthew Crawley in ITV’s Downton Abbey.

Betty Glipin as Mo Dean

Betty Glipin plays John Dean’s wife, Mo, which is short for Maureen.

Glipin’s Mo meets Dean on a blind date and quickly falls in love with the White House lawyer and marries him just as the scandal breaks.

Glipin is best known for her role as Debbie “Liberty Belle” Eagan in the Netflix series Glow.

Shea Whigham as G. Gordon Liddy

Shea Whigham plays the role of lawyer G. Gordon Liddy. Liddy was a key player as one of the White House’s ‘plumbers’ in the Watergate scandal.

Whigham is best known for his roles as Eli Thompson in Boardwalk Empire, Joel Theriot in True Detective, and Moe Dammick in Fargo.

Darby Camp as Marty Mitchell

Darby Camp plays Marty Mitchell, the daughter of Martha and John Mitchell.

Camp is well known for her role in HBO’s Big Little Lies where she plays Chloe Adaline Mackenzie, the daughter of Madeline Martha Mackenzie (Reese Witherspoon).
