But does the medical series start, what is it about and where is it filmed?

When does the first episode of Geordie Hospital air?

Geordie Hospital will first air on Monday 17 January on Channel 4.

The six hour-long episodes will feature as the latest addition to Channel 4’s new 8PM series.

Rita Daniels, Channel 4’s commissioning editor, said: “This is an exciting brand new 8pm series that features an incredible collection of inspiring, passionate and dedicated hospital staff.

“In each of the six episodes, you can clearly see their dedication, deep-felt connection and enthusiasm for the patients they meet every day.”

Where is Geordie Hospital filmed?

After lockdown, last summer, in 2021, the production company, Curve Media, was granted access to Newcastle Hospitals to follow staff and patients during the Covid-19 pandemic.

What is Geordie Hospital about?

Following the daily duties of the NHS staff working in Newcastle Hospitals, it will feature a returning cast of a wide range of duties, from porters to doctors and dental nurses as they deliver the care the NHS is well known for.

On the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS page, it says: “Being in a pandemic, a key priority for us has always been caring for COVID-19 patients on dedicated wards and making sure we had stringent infection prevention control (IPC) measures in place to keep our staff, patients and visitors safe.

“The small team involved in filming rigidly followed the same safety measures as our staff wearing the appropriate PPE and doing regular testing throughout the time they were with us.

However, they go on to say that the series is not about the pandemic, even though the effects are still being felt, but rather the people and what goes on behind the scenes at a busy hospital.

Dame Jackie Daniel, chief executive, said: “We wanted to show the very best of Newcastle in a warm and engaging way – focussing on our world-class clinicians as well as our extremely valued support staff who are all equally important in caring for our patients.”

Geordie Hospital starts on Channel 4 from 17 January at 8 PM . It is also available on All 4.
