When Gunther drops coffee off for Ross and Rachel, the audience suddenly hear the Central Perk manager’s inner monologue, telling us that he is in fact in love with Rachel.
“Oh, like you don’t already have everything?”
Once Ross and Rachel start getting romantically involved with each other, Gunther finds it increasingly difficult to hide his annoyance.

"Say, Rachel, I was wondering if you’d like to go to a movie with me sometime. As my lover," he thinks. "Too out there. Maybe just get something to eat with me sometime. As my lover."
However, in real life, her co-worker asks her out and she quickly accepts. Gunther retreats to the back of Central Perk, where a loud crash is then heard.
When he comes back out everyone is staring at him. To ease the tension he says: “I dropped a cup.”

In episodes 13 of season three Gunther does what no other character dared to do.
After Phoebe introduces everyone to her new boyfriend Robert, Chandler, Ross and Joey notice that his sports shorts are a little bit revealing.
After Phoebe finds out, she decides to break up with him. However at the end of the episode Robert wants to find out why women keep leaving him.

“Jij hebt seks met ezels.”
If there was one thing Gunther was good at, it was annoying Ross.
In a memorable season eight appearance, Ross decides to learn Dutch to impress an elderly apartment owner.
Later in the episode Ross calls Gunther an “ezel”, which means donkey. However, Gunther surprises everyone by responding in fluent Dutch, saying “Jij hebt seks met ezels,” which means Ross has relations with donkeys.

The finale of Friends was filled with several tear jerker moments, including Gunther telling Rachel that he has feelings for her.
What makes this all the more better, is he does it in a last ditch effort to annoy Ross, beating him to confessing his love for her.
Rachel tells Gunther that she loves him too, but “probably not in the same way.” It’s the last time Gunther appears in the show.
