He will also head to the east of the island, to Iceland’s Golden Circle, which is home to some of its most famous sights – waterfalls, ancient parliaments and the original hot water spring, the geysir, where he soaks up the heat as he witnesses it’s incredible power.  At a nearby volcanic lake Alexander has a unique lunch – smoked trout from the lake, fresh butter and an amazing bread baked on the mud and boiling volcanic water of the lake shore.

Episode two will see Alexander leave Reykjavik for the long drive north, passing through  some of Iceland’s most stunning scenery. He visits the northern part of the country, where he goes to the legendary port of Husavik. The port became famous for its role in Eurovision: The Story of Fire Saga.

Iceland’s north is also packed full of quirky adventures, which Alexander embraces. He finds himself in a huge desert, plays all-night golf with a local teacher then heads east to Asbrygi canyon

Finally, in episode three of the programme, Alexander will conclude his journey in the south of the country. The south is best known for its breathtaking, epic scenery.

He visits  the island of Heimaey and a town  which  almost ceased to exist when its volcano blew its top in 1973.

What is Iceland with Alexander Armstrong about?

According to the official description of the show: “In his first major series for Channel 5,  Alexander Armstrong embarks on an epic journey across the last country in the world to be settled by humans. Iceland’s unique isolated position has created an equally unique culture.

But, as Alexander discovers, there’s much more to Iceland than Vikings and violently erupting volcanoes (though there’s those too). Traversing the full breadth of the country he discovers a land of geysers, glaciers, whales, rancid shark meat, mega-spas heated by the earth’s core and eye-wateringly expensive beer - as well as finding out what it’s like to live in a country where nearly everyone is, quite literally, related!”
