'Clarkson’s Farm’ returns to Amazon but what impact will press watchdog investigation have?

Jeremy Clarkson may have sheep, cows and pigs on his Diddly Squat farm as seen on his Amazon Prime show ‘Clarkson’s Farm’, however a watchdog will be joining Jeremy’s menagerie as season two airs.

The Top Gear presenter returns to screens on Amazon Prime on February 10, alongside the cast of Kaleb, Gerald and Jeremy’s girlfriend Lisa Hogan, after the hugely successful first season.

Since season one aired in June 2021, Jeremy has become a grandfather after his eldest Emily Clarkson gave birth to a baby girl called Arlo, but also has faced intense backlash after writing a hugely controversial article about Meghan Markle.

The piece which stated that Clarkson ‘hated [Meghan] on a cellular level,’ and wanted to see the Duchess of Sussex ‘paraded naked through the streets’ while excrement was hurled at her, became the most complained about article, with over 25,000 complaints issued to IPSO, the press regulator.

The watchdog has now started an investigation into the complaints, highlighting two groups The Fawcett Society and The Wilde Foundation, who believe Jeremy breached rules in terms of accuracy, harassment and discrimination in his print.

The Fawcett Society is a gender equality charity and The Wilde Foundation helps victims and survivors of abuse.

Following the backlash, including condemning comments from his daughter Emily, Jeremy reportedly issued an apology to Meghan and Harry on Christmas Day for the ‘disgraceful’ story.

However, this apology may have been too little and too late, as IPSO looks into the complaints when Jeremy hits Amazon screens from the morning of 10 February with eight new episodes.

Season one of the docu-series reached the number one spot on the most-watched list days after its release and was rated 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, but with the watchdog hounding Clarkson and Twitter users stating their disapproval, numbers are most likely going to be lower this time around.

One Twitter user asked ‘will you be watching Clarkson’s Farm?’ and the majority of answers responded negatively including statements such as ‘no nor anything he is in ever,’ and, ‘If Clarkson is in it, no. If the programme has Clarkson in the title, no. If the programme features the aforementioned bigoted, misogynist POS, no.’

Therefore, with the watchdog investigation taking place and the effects of Jeremy’s article still looming, Clarkson’s Farm may have to lie in the (flower) bed that Jeremy has made.
