Dame Joanna Lumley’s latest travel series started last week taking us on a journey to a stunning European city. This week, we will get to see more from the quirky actress as she goes on yet another continental adventure in - Joanna Lumley’s Great Cities of the World.

What is Joanna Lumley’s Great Cities of the World about?

‘Joanna Lumley’s Great Cities of the World’ sees the nation’s favourite travel companion, as she ventures around three of the world’s most beautiful cities.

She’ll be showcasing famous city landmarks, meeting locals, as well as trying to get “beneath the skin” of each city.

In this three-part travel series, Joanna will take an inquisitive look at the unusual aspects of the European cities - as she visits Paris in France, Rome in Italy and Berlin in Germany.

Lumley has a real sense of adventure, and this is clearly seen from her previous adventurous travel documentaries.

In ‘Joanna Lumley’s Silk Road Adventure’, she was on a journey of exploration along the historic Silk Road route, travelling from Venice to the border of China - through vibrant cities and dramatic landscapes.

She also created a documentary called ‘Joanna Lumley’s Hidden Caribbean: Havana to Haiti’, where she travels across two of the most enigmatic countries in the Caribbean - Cuba and Haiti. In an attempt to explore and share the hidden potential that these countries have to offer, any curious traveller.

What happened in Joanna Lumley’s Great Cities of the World episode one?

In the first episode of the series, Joanna travelled through Paris, where she decided to experience the views of the city from a hot air balloon. She also visits the fire-damaged Notre Dame, which was partially destroyed in a blaze - in 2019. She discusses haute couture with Heiress and fashion icon, Daphne Guiness, whilst eating at a luxurious five-star Parisian restaurant. She even splashes-out and treats herself to a vintage Chanel suit.

The episode shows Joanna as she’s learning to fit in with Parisians, how you would get the waiter’s attention at a restaurant, and how you could attract admirers in the local cafe.

Lumley brings her unfiltered charm and sense of humour that would make any trip that much more enjoyable.

Where does Joanna Lumley travel to in episode two?

In episode two, Joanna continues in her travels to Rome, Italy, in this city we will see her really soak-up Italian culture. She will be whisked away on a cute little vespa by a handsome stranger, to see the sights. Then we will see her visit beautiful landmarks and buildings, such as The Pantheon and Trevi Fountain - both essential in any trip to the Italian capital.

Joanna will head to the Vatican Museum for a date with the gatekeeper, he will reveal the secret hiding place of the only key to the Sistine Chapel, and together they will unlock miles of corridors filled with beautiful treasures - leading to the Sistine Chapel.

In true Italian style, Lumley will also be getting her hands dirty in a top restaurant kitchen, where she will be taught how to make the most authentic Italian pizza.

Episode two of ‘Joanna Lumley’s Great Cities of the World’ will be showing on ITV - Thursday 24 March, at 9pm.

Next week, in the final episode and destination of the series we will see Dame Joanna Lumley, as she’s heading to Berlin, Germany.
