The possibility of Line of Duty season seven received its biggest endorsement yet, with actor Martin Compston dropping a major hint at Thursday’s (9 September) National Television Awards.

The series picked up two awards on the night - Special Recognition and Returning Drama. All awards were voted for by the public.

Line of Duty season six hit record-high viewing figures, becoming one of the BBC’s most watched dramas in the last two decades.

Several members of the Line of Duty cast and crew went on stage to accept the awards, as well as Martin Compston’s wife, Tianna Chanel Flynn.

After picking up the Special Recognition award for Line of Duty, Martin Compston thanked the fans of the show for its success: "This means so much, like we started as a wee show on Wednesday night on BBC Two and now we’re the biggest drama on TV and it’s all because of the fans, we owe everything to you."

He added: "We genuinely don’t take this for granted and who knows, maybe we’ll be back again."

​​Speaking to the press backstage, the Scottish actor said he would be “gutted” if the show didn’t return for a seventh season.

However, he explained the decision of a return was up to Line of Duty creator, Jed Mercurio.

Compston said: "He’ll only come back if he believes there’s a story to tell, he won’t come back just because we’re bigger. So if we come back, we’re back because there’s lines in the story, and the only man who can say that is Jed Mercurio.

"That’s the beauty of Jed, because there’s everybody talking, he does everything for a reason. Believe me there’s nothing that man does that is not for a reason."

Compston is currently starring alongside Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie in BBC’s Vigil.

Who is Tianna Chanel Flynn?

Martin Compston is married to estate agent and actress, Tianna Chanel Flynn.

Compston married Tianna Chanel Flynn back in 2016 at the Mar Hall in Renfrewshire, Scotland. The couple have one child together and live in Las Vegas.

American Born Chanel Flynn, attended the Advanced Technologies Academy in Las Vegas, Nevada, and was a cheerleader for the University of Nevada.

She has appeared in several TV shows, including How to Get Away with Murder, and the role of Teisha in Secret Diary of an American Cheerleader.

Chanel Flynn even made a brief appearance in Line of Duty. Viewers might remember DCI Steve Arnott (Compston) swiping through a dating app. He then receives a message from Tina Watts. The picture used was of Chanel Flynn.
