Martyn Hett death: who was Manchester Arena bombing victim - and when is Worlds Collide documentary on ITV?

A new two-part ITV documentary will take a personal look at the life of one of the victims of the Manchester bombing.

The first episode focussed on Martyn Hett, who was 29 when he was killed in the terror attack at Manchester Arena on 22 May 2017.

The bombing occurred at an Ariana Grande concert at the arena which caused the deaths of 22 people, not including the suicide bomber, and injured more than 1,000.

It was the deadliest terrorist attack in the UK since the 7/7 bombings in London in 2005.

The episode featured interviews with those who were close to Martyn, and explored how the lives of he and his killer took such different turns.

The second part of the documentary will focus on the response of the emergency services to the attack.

Who was Martyn Hett?

Martyn grew up in Stockport just 10 miles from the terrorist who would go on to kill him and 21 others.

Martyn was a PR manager with a growing social media presence and had previously appeared on two reality TV shows.

At the inquiry into the attack Martyn’s father, Paul, said that his son’s life was “so vibrant, so full of energy".

Paul added: "How would I describe Martyn’s personality in one simple word - fun. He had the most wicked sense of humour."

Martyn had planned to take a leave of absence from his job and spend two months travelling America, and had been at the concert to celebrate his imminent departure to the States as well as a friend’s birthday.

One of Martyn’s friends, Paul Swaine, who was also at the concert and is featured on the documentary, said: “Martyn would make you feel like you were the only person in the room. He cared, he looked after people, he was going to be a friend for life."

Had Martyn been on TV before?

A Coronation Street superfan, Martyn appeared on Tattoo Fixers to get a tattoo of the soap character Deidre on his leg.

After Martyn’s death, his stepfather Stuart appeared on the show to get a  tattoo of Martyn dressed up as Deidre on his own leg as a tribute.

Martyn also appeared on an episode of Couples Come Dine With Me with his boyfriend and fellow Corrie fan Russell.

Martyn had been on the BBC Radio Five Live hours before he was killed to talk about the return of Jim McDonald in Coronation Street.

When is Worlds Collide on TV?

The first episode of the two-part documentary aired on 11 April at 9pm on ITV.

The second part of the documentary will air at the same time on 14 April.

Both episodes will be available to watch on ITV Hub shortly after they are first broadcast.
