Neighbours become good friends…with Amazon Prime. Following its cancellation the popular streaming platform has announced it will produce a revival of the show. The streaming platform announced on November 17 that it will bring the beloved Australian soap back by 2023.

Neighbours was on TV for a massive 37 years before it was cancelled and aired its star-studded finale on July 28, 2022. Not only making it a huge part of television history, but many people’s lives who grew up with it on their TV’s. Margot Robbie, Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce, Jason Donovan, Natalie Imbruglia and Holly Valance were among the celebrities who returned to say their goodbyes to the show giving viewers a huge nostalgia hit.

Nostalgia has been a huge part of the conversation when it comes to TV as of late, and streaming platforms have definitely been taking notice. Whether it’s Netflix bringing every single episode of Friends to their platform, and Disney+ bringing movie revivals such as Hocus Pocus 2 and Disenchanted to our screens.

Disney has been hot on the trend using their streaming platform Disney+ to host their latest revivals such as Raven’s Home, a spin-off of the iconic That’s So Raven. When Disney+ launched they heard the screams from nostalgia drive millennials desperate for a revival of The Lizzie McGuire Show starring Hilary Duff, and announced that it was in development. However, the project was shelved after creative difficulties between the production staff, Duff and Disney itself.

Millennials have more hope than ever that they will eventually get their hit of nostalgic feels when a platform picks up a revival of their favourite show. So which TV shows are you desperately hoping will return to our screens in the streaming platform eta? Here are some of our favourite TV shows we would love to put a special request in for Amazon Prime to revive… Thanks in the meantime though for bring Neighbours back to life!

Neighbours

Neighbours was an Australian show screened as a 22-minute weeknight episode, and depicted the lives of the people living in Erinsborough, a fictional suburb of Melbourne. It began in 1985 and has been the start of many big star’s careers such as Oscar-winner Russell Crowe and the Hemsworth brothers, Chris, Luke and Liam.

As confirmed by Amazon Prime, Neighbours will return in the second half of 2023. While the likes of Stefan Dennis, Alan Fletcher, Jackie Woodburne and Ryan Moloney all knew about the soap’s come back on Freevee and Prime Video as they were in the announcement video it seems that not everyone in the cast will return as some of them were unaware of the revival.

Takaya Honda, whose character David Tanaka was part of the first same-sex marriage on Australian television with Aaron Brennan, shared the video on Twitter and added: "Just FYI the cast is finding this out right now. Give us time to process. We don’t know anything."

One Tree Hill

One Tree Hill is an American drama television series which premiered on September 23, 2003, and ended on April 4, 2012 after nine series. The show is set in the fictional town of Tree Hill in North Carolina. The show initially follows the lives of two half-brothers, Lucas Scott played by Chad Michael Murray and Nathan Scott played by James Lafferty and the drama ensues from there. The cast also includes Hilarie Burton, Bethany Joy Lenz, Sophie Bush, and many more.

There have been rumours of a revival for years and fans are anxiously awaiting the announcement. The entire cast is still very much in touch despite the reported on-set tensions. Hilarie Burton, Bethany Joy Lenz, Sophie Bush recently started a popular podcast Drama Queens in which they watch every episode back and have had guest appearances from some of your favourite characters.

Friends is one of the biggest sitcoms of all times created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, which aired on NBC from September 22, 1994, to May 6, 2004, lasting ten seasons. The show revolves around six friends in their 20s and 30s who live in Manhattan, New York City. It was fronted by an ensemble cast of Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer.

Since it’s ending people have been desperate for it to return to our screens with petitions and much more. However, fans were set a buzz in 2021 when it was announced that the original cast would come back together to reminisce and celebrate the show on the one off Friends: The Reunion. The special was hosted by James Corden and executive produced by the show’s co-creators, Marta Kauffman and David Crane, Kevin S. Bright.

Dawson’s Creek

Dawson’s Creek is an American teen drama television series set in the fictional town of Capeside, Massachusetts and follows a group of friends as they begin their high school journey and follow them all the way to college. The show aired from 1998 and ended in 2003 after six seasons.

The show kick started the careers of some big hitters in Hollywood such as best friends Michelle Williams and Busy Phillips as well as James Van Der Beek and Katie Holmes. The final season of the show left fans divided and has led to many people asking for a revival for clarification.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Buffy The Vampire Slayer was an American supernatural drama that followed Buffy Summers, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, who is the latest in a line of young women known as "Vampire Slayers”. It became an iconic staple in a movement for female empowerment and continues to do so to this day. The series premiered on March 10, 1997, on The WB and concluded on May 20, 2003, on UPN

The series received critical and popular acclaim and usually reached between four and six million viewers on original airings. After 15 years of waiting fans were happy to hear in 2018 that a reboot of the series starring Sarah Michelle Gellar was announced, promising a “contemporary” spin on the supernatural drama “building on the mythology of the original.” However, that has since been put on pause.

The OC

The O.C. is an American teen drama television series which aired from August 5, 2003, to February 22, 2007. The series centres on Ryan Atwood played by Ben McKensie, a troubled and gifted young man from a broken home who is adopted by the wealthy and philanthropic Sandy Cohen played by Peter Gallagher and Kirsten Cohen played by Kelly Rowan.

While the show had low ratings that led to its eventual cancellations more than 700,000 fans signed an online petition to bring the show back.
