One of Netflix’s most popular series, Bridgerton, has seen its spin off get released today on the streaming platform and is already getting glowing reviews and much love from our friends over at Nationalworld. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, created by Bridgerton mastermind Shonda Rhimes, will transport audiences back in time to witness the origins of the romantic saga between Queen Charlotte and King George.

The prequel introduces us to the newly cast actors India Amarteifio and Corey Mylchreest, who portray the royals during the early days of their complex marriage. As Queen Charlotte delves into the long-kept secrets of the fictionalised royal family, viewers are treated to a glimpse of the early lives of some of the beloved characters from the original series, set against the backdrop of the Regency era.

Bridgerton helped launch the careers of two names that both Amarteifio and Mylchreest hope to emulate with their leading roles in the series; Regé-Jean Page and Phoebe Dynevor. Both were relative unknowns before the launch of Bridgerton in 2020, and since then Page has become one of the names floated around a lot regarding the next James Bond, while Dynevor has moved from the small screen to start her big screen career - she is set to play the lead in the upcoming Miramax spy thriller Inheritance, due for release in 2024.

With Queen Charlotte set to follow on from the massive success of Bridgerton, will the two relatively “unknown” leads (UK TV appearances aside) follow in the footsteps of Dynevor and Page and use the Netflix series as a platform for future roles? The good omens seem to be as present as they were for the main series it would seem. Even Jonathan Bailey, who portrayed Viscount Anthony Bridgerton in the series, has seen his stock rise - he is currently working alongside Ariana Grande and company in the big screen adaptation of Wicked.

So ahead of your royal viewing this weekend (King’s Coronation, Queen Charlotte, Coronation Concert), get to know a little more about the main cast members of what is set to be Netflix’s next breakout, binge worth hit.

Of the two cast members, India Amarteifio has a bit more of a body of work behind them than Corey Mylchreest. At the age of 21, her impressive resume includes portraying the young Nala in The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre in 2011, before appearing in Matilda the Musical at the Cambridge Theatre as Hortensia.

In 2013, she was part of the original cast of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, where she alternated the role of Violet Beauregarde. That same year, Amarteifio also made her television debut in the BBC One film Gangsta Granny, penned by David Walliams.

Since then, Amarteifio has been involved in a number of notable projects. She appeared in the miniseries The Interceptor and guest-starred in the Doctor Who series 9 episode "The Magician's Apprentice" on BBC One in 2015. She also starred in the Disney Channel series The Evermoor Chronicles as Lacie Fairburn for both series. Amarteifio has had recurring roles as Roz Huntley's (Thandiwe Newton) daughter Sophie in the fourth series of Line of Duty and Maya Roebuck in the third series of the Sky Atlantic crime drama The Tunnel.

In 2019, Amarteifio made her feature film debut in the comedy-drama Military Wives. She went on to play Nora Randall in the Sky Max science fiction series The Midwich Cuckoos in 2022.

Perhaps it is fair given the body of work Corey Mylchreest has under his belt compared to India Amarteifio to say that he is a relative unknown, but this 2020 graduate of RADA has some impressive theatrical titles under his belt while studying at the hallowed institution. During his time at RADA, Mylchreest performed in productions of Julius Caesar, Macbeth and Hamlet before his first on-screen role in Mars - a short film shot by Hannah Beach as part of a MET Film School project in 2021.

Though Mylchreest isn’t entirely a stranger to the streaming platform; he appeared in the first episode of Netflix’s popular adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman books, portraying Adonis - though with Queen Charlotte marking the young actors first lead role in a television or film production, he may well follow a similar path to Rege-Jean Page in terms of becoming a household name… is that a Bond rumour we hear beckoning?
