Richard Osman stepped down from Pointless earlier this year and was replaced by actress Sally Lindsay

Richard Osman worked as Alex Armstrong’s ‘Pointless friend’ on the quiz show since it began airing back in 2009.

During the show, Richard would explain the categories to contestants and reveal which answers were worth the fewest points at the end of each round, including the coveted pointless answers.

The dynamic between the two presenters became a major part of the show over the 12 years and 27 seasons they worked together.

However, earlier this year Richard announced that he would be stepping down from the show and will be replaced by a series of guest hosts.

Sally Lindsay was the first to take the reins from Richard, and the former host took to Twitter to crack a joke about her first episode.

Richard announced his decision to leave the quiz show in April as success in his writing career continued to grow.

He said in a statement: “Pointless has been a joy from start to finish, working alongside my friend Alexander Armstrong, backed by the most wonderful team, and for the best viewers in the world.

“I will miss everyone so much, but I’m thrilled that I’ll still be presenting the celebrity shows. I can’t thank everyone enough for twelve amazing years.”

He said on Twitter that his novels have “become such a juggernaut around the world I simply couldn’t keep up with my schedule.”

Richard has published three novels in his best-selling Thursday Murder Club series, the latest, The Bullet That Missed, was released on 15 September.

Richard will continue to host Pointless Celebrities and his newer quiz show House of Games.
